North Lakes Library Visual Story
1. Underground Parking
The underground car park is located beneath the library, featuring concrete surfaces and low ceilings. It includes dedicated accessible car parking spaces marked with clear signage, located adjacent to the lifts. Elevators connect the car park to upper levels, and the area is enclosed with concrete walls.
The entrance is wide, with clear directional markings on the ground. Lighting is provided by overhead fixtures, and there are visible safety barriers and bollards.
2. Endeavour Boulevard Off Street Parking
The parking area is located off Endeavour Boulevard and features concrete surfaces with marked spaces, including a dedicated accessible car parking space. The area is bordered by low walls and railings. An external elevator provides access to an overpass connecting to the building. Nearby, there are pathways with handrails and a mix of concrete and wooden surfaces.
The area is adjacent to a YMCA facility, and there are clear directional signs for vehicle movement. Activity levels may increase during peak hours or events. You may hear vehicle sounds and nearby activity. The area is open-air, so weather conditions may affect the environment.
3. On Street Parking and Pedestrian Access
The building features a modern design with large glass windows and a wooden overhang. The exterior is constructed with concrete and steel, and there are landscaped areas with plants. The ground surfaces are a mix of concrete and pavers. There are step-free pathways and ramps with handrails leading to the entrance. Signage is clear, directing visitors to various entries.
Pedestrian pathways connect the on-street parking to the entrance, and the area is bordered by roads with slower traffic speeds. This space is typically used for accessing the library and community centre. Activity levels may vary, with more visitors during events or weekends. You may hear traffic from nearby roads. The area is well-lit, and the presence of plants may add a natural scent. The environment feels open with visible greenery and urban elements.
4. Playground and Forecourt
The area features a covered forecourt with wide, step-free pathways made of concrete and tiles. The architecture includes glass and steel elements, with a modern design. A playground area is present with small slides and has rubber flooring.
Shade structures provide cover, and low sloping ramps ensure easy movement. The space is bordered by stone walls and fencing, with clear connections to surrounding areas, including parking access routes.
5. Main Library Entrance
The entry area is on level two, featuring automatic glass sliding doors with step-free access. The floor is covered with large grey tiles, and the ceiling is high with fluorescent lighting. The walls display colourful murals.
Accessible bathrooms are located next to the lifts which has as a toilet with handrails. Elevators and a wooden winding staircase connect to lower levels. Large windows offer views into the library below.
6. Library Foyer and Amenities
The library foyer on level one features a wooden slat ceiling and tiled flooring. It includes a staircase and elevators for access from level two. The area has accessible amenities, including a bathroom with an adult change table.
The space serves as a transition area to the main library, with automatic glass sliding doors leading to it. Seating is available under the staircase as well as a couch adjacent to the stairs. Activity levels may vary as visitors move between the entrance and library.
7. Main Library
The library features a high ceiling with timber elements and large glass windows. The flooring is carpeted, providing a soft surface. There are computer workstations, lounge seating, and study zones. Bookshelves are spread throughout the space. The area includes a customer service desk with self-service kiosks.
Pathways are wide and step-free, allowing easy movement. The space connects to other areas through glass doors and open walkways.
8. Kids Corner
The children's area features colourful design elements with themed structures and children's tables. The flooring is carpeted, providing a soft surface. Large windows allow in natural light, and there are bookshelves filled with children's books. The area includes a hot air balloon-themed structure and comfortable couches.
Pathways are wide and step-free, connecting to other parts of the library. This space is used for reading and play activities. Activity levels may increase during weekends or events. You may hear children playing and talking. The area is visually stimulating with bright colours and themed décor.
9. Library Meeting Rooms
The library features meeting rooms with glass walls and carpeted floors. The rooms have wooden tables and chairs, and some have computers. The ceiling has wooden slats with integrated lighting. There are clear pathways between tables, and the rooms are separated by glass partitions. The space is designed for quiet activities, training sessions and meetings.
In the main library area which is a large, open space there are computer stations and individual desks for study. A new Quiet Area is coming to North Lakes Library with works beginning 16 March 2026. Until then, event rooms are available for individual use when there are no scheduled programs underway.
10. Community Hall and Meeting Rooms
The community hall and meeting rooms are accessed from a shared foyer on level two, connected by a corridor featuring a colourful mural. The hall features polished timber floorboards and bright fluorescent lighting. Meeting rooms offer boardroom and classroom-style layouts with modern furniture.
A veranda with outdoor seating is attached, providing an outdoor space with views out over the street. Accessible bathrooms are nearby and have a toilet with handrails. The area is constructed with glass, timber, and concrete, with step-free pathways and wide corridors for easy movement.
