Whitsunday Coast Airport Visual Story
Arriving at the Airport
Whitsunday Coast Airport on Lascelles Avenue serves mainland and island destinations with flights to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Cairns. The terminal is a modern, low-rise structure made of glass and metal, set within vast rural landscapes. Well-marked parking areas provide long-term and rental car options, including a ticketless car park opposite the terminal.
Entry is by number plate recognition, and exit payment can be made by credit card at the boom gate or with cash at a pay station. A two-minute passenger drop-off and pick-up zone is along the main entry road, across from the terminal. The atmosphere is calm, with an air of anticipation as passengers arrive, depart, and check in.
Check in and Bag Drop
The Whitsunday Coast Airport's Check in and Bag Drop area is a long, rectangular hall with a modern design using glass and metal. On the left, bright airline signage and queueing tapes guide passengers through the check-in process. The hall is spacious, with automatic sliding doors for easy access on the right.
In the check-in area, multiple counters with digital screens display airline logos and check-in information. Stanchions and ropes organise the flow of passengers. Signs for priority check-in are visible, and the floor is covered with a patterned carpet.
The atmosphere is bustling. Passengers queue, check bags, and navigate to gates.
Security Screening
The security screening area is a modern, well-lit space with large glass windows allowing natural light to flood in. The area is carpeted with clear directional signs directing passengers where to go.
In this area, passengers move through with urgency, preparing for security checks. The atmosphere is tense, with a mix of anxiety and anticipation as personal belongings pass through screening devices. Occasionally, passengers are asked direct questions or undergo a "pat down" or "explosives swab" test to ensure airline safety.

Departure Gates and Café/Retail
The Departure Gates and Café/Retail is a spacious area with high ceilings and a mix of tiles and carpet flooring. At its centre, there is a large glass aquarium adding a calming visual element. The architecture combines glass and wood, with ample seating areas that include massage chairs.
The terminal is divided into zones: a cafe and bar area, IT zone, retail area, and general lounge. Amenities such as an all-gender accessible toilet with grab bars and baby changing station are near the restaurant and close to the exit leading to baggage claim.
The atmosphere is calm, with people relaxing, dining, shopping, or waiting for flights, though it can become lively during peak times.
Boarding and Airport Tarmac
The boarding and tarmac area at Whitsunday Coast Airport terminal features a modern, open space with large glass windows providing views of the vast, flat terrain outside. The architecture includes sleek metal and glass elements. Passengers follow the queue along retractable barrier tape leading to the departure gate where boarding passes are checked before accessing the tarmac.
On the tarmac, mobility lifts and luggage carts are available for accessibility. Passengers walk across an uncovered walkway to board their aircraft, experiencing the sound of airplane engines and an anticipatory atmosphere.
Arrivals Hall and Baggage Collection
The Arrivals Hall and Baggage Claim Area are accessible through automatic glass sliding doors. On the left, the space is modern with a mix of carpeted and tiled floors. Large digital screens on the walls display vibrant images.
Multiple baggage carousels and clear signage facilitate easy navigation. A row of car rental and transportation service counters is present. Nearby amenities include an all-gender accessible toilet equipped with a shower with grab bars and a baby changing station.
People collect luggage, wait for transport, or arrange car rentals. The atmosphere is organised, with a sense of anticipation as travellers prepare to continue their journey.
