The Rex Barossa Aquatic and Fitness Visual Story
Arrival at The Rex Barossa Aquatic and Fitness
Nestled on Magnolia Road in Tanunda, The Rex Barossa Aquatic and Fitness Centre is set in the rural countryside where there is the sound of nature occasionally interrupted by a passing vehicle. There is established bushland of native trees offering natural bush smells and native flowers and pollens.
The modern and architecturally designed industrial facility is adorned with alternating vertical lines of green, yellow, white, and black. A dedicated accessible parking area is situated directly in front of the building, including five accessible car parking spaces. Entry to the facility is through manually operated, outward opening glass doors with cream trim. Bicycle racks are available close to the facility entrance.
Entrance & Café
Entering through the glass doors, there is a retail section offering swimwear and accessories to the right. Directly to the left is a range of swimming goggles and clothes for sale, whilst further ahead on the left is the reception counter, featuring a lowered counter height for seated assistance. Located at the end of reception, to the left is the Rex Gym cafe, providing coffee, garden salads, wraps, and sandwiches.
Brightly coloured, moveable tables and chairs are also located here. To the right of this central hub is the aquatic centre, whilst the gymnasium is directly ahead and the basketball and squash courts are to the left. Colourful signs are strategically placed to guide visitors throughout the area.
Aquatic Centre
The Rex Barossa Aquatic and Fitness centre has an 8-lane, 25-metre heated swimming pool, as well as a spa and leisure pool with a beach entrance. Access into this area is through an outward-opening glass doors. The aquatic centre features a high ceiling equipped with large air conditioning vents, metal beams, and bright lights.
Aquatic wheelchairs, hoists, and other assistive equipment is readily available from the aquatic centre. Located outside the aquatic facility, in a corridor are the male and female bathrooms as well as an accessible bathroom with a shower, bench seat, and handrails. A Changing Place Facility is located within the aquatic centre and is also accessible from outside the facility, using an MLAK.
Gymnasium
To access the gym, walk ahead from reception down a short corridor and through a manually operated, inward opening glass door. Upon entry, to the left are shelves for the storage of personal items. Directly ahead are rows of exercise machines, including a lat pull-down machine, treadmills, bikes, and rowers, which are neatly arranged on the rubber-tiled floor. To the right is the free weights section with rows of weights and bench seats. Flat-screen TVs and wall fans are mounted to the wall. The gym maintains a slightly cooler air temperature compared to the entrance, accompanied by a constant hum from high-velocity fans.
Basketball & Squash Courts
To access the basketball and squash courts from reception, turn left and move past the cafe, and follow the carpeted corridor. To the right through large glass windows, is Court 1. Moving further forward leads to Court 2 on the right and Court 3 directly ahead. The floor of the basketball courts is a high gloss timber parquet with blue and red markings, echoing a resonant sound as basketballs bounce.
The basketball court has a high-pitched industrial ceiling adorned with white beams, airconditioning vents, and natural skylights. To the left are the squash courts enclosed in glass partitions with high gloss, timber floors, and white walls. Tiered seating, as well as moveable chairs, are positioned for spectators.
