Runaway Bay Sports Precinct East Visual Story
Arrival
Runaway Bay Sports Precinct East is located on Morala Avenue, at the corner of Lae Drive. The park includes sports fields for rugby league and soccer, an athletics track and oval, a cycling track and a skating facility. Within the park are the Runaway Bay Community Centre, Runaway Bay Library and the Runaway Bay War Memorial Cenotaph.
The precinct has a large parking area shared within the precinct, with clear markings and accessible car parking spaces. Step-free pathways and signage support movement between the areas, including the library, community centre and the Soccer Clubhouse. The open setting combines asphalt and greenery, providing space for sports, library visits and community events.
Anzac Place
The ANZAC Place Cenotaph in Runaway Bay is a war memorial on Lae Drive, located beside the Runaway Bay Library. From the car park, a step-free concrete pathway connects to a circular stone path that leads to the central monument.
The structure combines stone and metal, with a decorative canopy overhead. Benches are positioned, allowing a space for visitors to sit and reflect.
Established trees surrounds the site, creating a setting for quiet visits or commemorative services such as the Anzac Day Dawn and Day Services. People may be seen sitting quietly with heads bowed in respect and remembering loved ones.
Bike Park and Playground
The park includes a bike path with two loops, mostly fenced from the road and carpark to ensure safety. The outer loop circles the full park area, while the inner loop features learn-to-ride signs, a roundabout and shorter connecting paths, making it suitable for children developing cycling skills.
Large established trees line a large portion of the track, offering shaded areas throughout the day. Benches are positioned near the pathways, giving parents a place to sit and observe activities.
Alongside the bike track is a small skate bowl, designed for younger users but also accommodating older children. The playground provides a slide, swings, a mini rock climbing wall and a Liberty Swing, catering to a range of abilities.
The area supports cycling, skating and play in a safe, family-friendly environment where children can learn and socialise while adults supervise comfortably.
Rugby League Fields
The precinct includes four rugby league fields, two of which are for junior games and two for senior games. Each field has grass surfaces, goal posts and tall floodlights. A metal and concrete grandstand provides seating with clear views across the senior field number 1.
The rugby fields cover a large expanse of land and are located next to a series of soccer fields. With such a large number of sports fields next to each other, some visitors may experience slight disorientation when locating their allocated field. Visitors are likely to watch matches, cheer for teams or take part in games, creating a lively atmosphere with a strong sense of community.
