QUT Esports Arena and Virtual Sports Studio Visual Story
1. QUT Campus Orientation and Central Walkway
The QUT Esports Arena, Broadcast Studio and Virtual Sports Studio are located on the central pedestrian walkway between the X Block (Community Health and Wellbeing Centre) and Y Block at the Gardens Point campus. From the central campus square, make your way between the X and Y buildings along the wide paved walkway. The first doorway on the left leads to the Esports Arena. Continuing further along, the next doorway on the left leads to the amenities. The following doorway on the left provides access to the Broadcast Studio. Opposite these spaces, further along on the right-hand side within Y Block, is the entrance to the Virtual Sports Studio. Glass skybridges connect the buildings overhead, providing a visual landmark along the route.
The walkway is surfaced with large stone pavers and is generally level and wide. X Block is characterised by red brick walls, concrete columns and white building facades, while Y Block features contemporary glass and metal finishes. Large established trees, landscaped garden beds and open lawn areas border sections of the walkway. Overhead, glass-enclosed bridges connect the buildings at upper levels. Directional signage, building identifiers and automatic glass entry doors are located throughout the area.
This section of campus serves as the primary access route to the QUT Sport facilities, including the Esports Arena, Broadcast Studio and Virtual Sports Studio. The walkway is used by students, staff and visitors moving between classes, sporting facilities and campus buildings. Activity levels can vary throughout the day, with higher pedestrian traffic between classes and during events. You may hear conversations, footsteps, bicycles, scooters and general campus activity. The area combines open outdoor spaces, mature vegetation and large academic buildings, creating a busy university environment.
2. Esports Arena
The Esports Arena is located within X Block along the central walkway between the X and Y buildings. From the campus walkway, enter through the manual glass door with a metal handle. The entrance opens directly into the gaming arena, where computer gaming stations are positioned along both the left and right walls. Moving further ahead through the orange-framed opening leads into a second gaming area with additional computer stations along both sides and a large display screen mounted on the wall at the far end of the room.
The flooring transitions from the external stone pavers to a small entrance mat and then to carpet tiles featuring alternating grey, blue and orange stripes. The arena has dark ceilings, grey walls and subdued lighting, creating a dedicated gaming environment. Gaming stations are arranged in rows along both sides of the room, with each station consisting of a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse and gaming chair. Transparent computer cases display illuminated internal components, producing blue lighting effects throughout the space. Linear ceiling lights, recessed lighting and illuminated computer equipment provide most of the light within the room.
The Esports Arena is used for gaming, esports training, social play, competitions and organised events. Activity levels can vary significantly depending on bookings and tournaments. During organised events, you may hear conversations between players, commentary, cheering, sudden reactions, computer cooling fans and the operation of gaming equipment. Visual stimulation may be increased due to illuminated computer hardware, multiple monitors and digital displays. The space is air-conditioned and has a technology-focused atmosphere, with rows of gaming stations and screens forming the primary visual features throughout the arena.

Each station includes a stationary bicycle connected to a digital display screen, allowing participants to engage in virtual sporting experiences. Large display screens are mounted on the walls throughout the space.
The studio is a long rectangular room with a rubberised sports floor incorporating grey and brown tones. The ceiling is high, with exposed services painted black, creating an industrial appearance. Linear lighting runs the length of the room, while acoustic treatments and ventilation systems are mounted overhead.
