Metro Arts Visual Story
Arrival at Metro Arts
Located on Boundary Street in West End, Metro Arts occupies Level G of a building with a brick façade on Factory Lane. Parking is underground within the greater West Village’s Secure Car Park.
Follow the brick path to access Metro Arts, flanked by restaurants with Al Fresco seating on the right and either a white wooden fence or grass on the left. Turn right at the end to find Metro Arts situated on the left before the stairs. Lush landscaping with ornamental plants surrounds a range of undercover seating options in the West Village and a first-time visit may be disorientating.
Box Office & Bar
The Box Office & Bar is located on Factory Lane, identified by a white sign bearing "Metro Arts" on a brick façade. The bifold doors allow for a seamless entry to the Box Office. Hearing Loops can be obtained here.
To the right is a dimly lit Box Office & Bar, with a tiled reception counter adjacent to various seating arrangements, such as high-top tables and chairs or low-cushioned bench seating. Moving past the bi-fold doors, there is a bar counter that opens out to the laneway where drinks can be purchased.
In the laneway, chairs, tables, and bench seating are positioned out in front of the bar. Outside, to the right, are stairs with handrails and public toilets, including a unisex ambulant toilet.
Gallery One
Gallery One is positioned on Factory Lane, directly across from the Metro Arts Box Office & Bar. Accessible through a manual-operated, outward-opening glass door, the interior boasts a dimly lit ambiance, with polished cement flooring and exposed ceilings.
The door is usually left open during the Gallery opening hours unless required to be left closed due to the nature of the exhibition being presented at the time. The contents of the gallery can change for each exhibition. It may contain paintings and artworks on the white walls, as well as sculptural artworks on the floor throughout the space. On occasion, a temporary partial wall is in place halfway down the gallery on the left, with a walkway on the right.
Gallery Two
To access Gallery Two, enter through the outward-opening black door situated to the left of Metro Arts Box Office & Bar. Inside, is a dimly lit space with black walls and floors. Depending on the exhibition in the space, there may be huge flatscreen TVs adorning the walls, projections, audio speakers, and floodlights.
Theatre
To reach the Theatre, enter through the box office foyer to the left of the Metro Arts Box Office & Bar. Descend three flights of stairs and turn right. Alternatively, access is available via the lift which is located towards the back of the foyer and arrives at the base of the stairs.
To the right of the base of the stairs, there are double outward-opening black doors, with the right door propped open. Entry through this door takes visitors down a carpeted corridor with another double door which are both propped open.
When entering for an event, there is an Usher waiting here to scan ticket/s. Inside, turn right into the theatre, with a seating bank to the right and the stage to the left.
Metro Arts Studios
The Metro Art Studios is accessible by using the lift on the ground floor or the stairs outside the Box Office & Bar. At Level 1, a sofa offers a quiet seating area near the lift. To the left of the lift, a corridor leads to bathrooms, including one with an accessible toilet and shower, which requires a PIN for entry.
The Studios are accessible through a manually operated door next to the bathrooms. The area has cream vinyl flooring, an industrial-style ceiling with exposed pipes, large air vents, and LED lighting. Large glass windows with curtains provide views of the adjacent garden below. Two studios are located along the corridor, each with its own door and an operable wall that allows the two spaces to be combined.
Back of House
Access to the Back of House is for artists only. Access is from the rear of the theatre stage, or directly from the underground car park, with a ramp featuring handrails for accessibility and a dedicated accessible car space.
If entering from the car park, there is an all-gender bathroom and shower located on the right. Further in, are seating areas and a small kitchen. A staircase on the left provides access to the toilet, laundry, dressing rooms, and mezzanine level.
