Arrival at Ferny Hills Aquatic Centre

The Ferny Hills Aquatic Centre is a low set, 80s style, brown brick building set amongst suburban homes and surrounding schools in with plenty of large established trees giving it a tranquil setting despite being within the suburbs.

The 50m outdoor pool is surrounded by gum trees next to the adjoining road which is close to a school. Parking is conveniently located adjacent to the entrance, including two accessible car parking spaces with step-free access to the pathway leading to the entrance.

The presence of mature, expansive trees contributes to a serene ambiance, providing a peaceful atmosphere despite its suburban location. Within the accessible parking spaces, several cars are neatly parked.
A closer look at the brown brick building. The slender walkway of the building appears to be in good condition and respectable. In the backyard, there are elevated metal poles accompanied by fences. A number of trees are also present in this specific section. The roofing design is reminiscent of the style commonly seen way back in the 80s.

Entry to Ferny Hills Aquatic Centre

A small breezeway in the brown brick building has low to mid level lighting from the fluorescent lighting. There are no doors and no barriers to entry when the facility is open. Directly ahead are a series of steps leading down to the indoor heated pool.

To the left are the bathrooms including the accessible bathroom and a ramp down to the heated pool. To the right is a concrete pathway down an incline to the outdoor 50m swimming pool. People can be seen queuing to enter.

The unmistakable brown brick structure, reminiscent of the 1980s style, is easily discernible from this vantage point. Additionally, decorative items have been positioned within a cemented box used as a planter in the garden. The bricks composing the wall appear to have been diligently preserved over the passage of time.

A closer look at the reception area. At the reception area's forefront, there are signs and frames associated with swimming. A receptionist is easily noticeable, wearing a smile as she attends to her tasks. Fluorescent lights cast their glow, and a wall clock hangs prominently within the reception. Additionally, a CCTV camera is positioned on the ceiling above the reception space.

Moving around Ferny Hills Aquatic Centre

The outdoor area features a large 50-meter swimming pool, accessible down a slight ramp to the right of the reception area. A series of steps directly in front of the reception leads to the indoor heated pool. To the left are the accessible bathrooms, equipped with a toilet with hand grabs and a shower with a bench and handrails.

There is also a playground with rope climbing and a water splash pad area with water sprinkling and spouting features. Tables and chairs are arranged under umbrella shades.

Directly ahead is the indoor pool, accessible via another ramp with handrails, located further to the left beyond the bathrooms. A pool hoist is available to assist with entry into the 50-meter swimming pool.

Indoor heated pool at Ferny Hills Aquatic Centre

The indoor heated pool, located directly ahead of the entrance, is housed in a warehouse-style building, constructed from steel beams, corrugated iron, and glass walls, which stand as a main feature of the aquatic facility.

The 15-meter swimming pool, maintained at 32 degrees, includes a ramp entry to facilitate access. Large mural images of children swimming adorn the walls, providing a vibrant contrast of colors. An outdoor shower is also available adjacent to the pool.
