Duhgu-ba Basketball Court Visual Story
1. QUT Campus Orientation and Access
The Duhgu-ba Basketball Court precinct is accessed via step-free concrete pathways connected to the main pedestrian network within the QUT Gardens Point campus. The precinct is located between several university buildings and open landscaped areas, making it a prominent gathering space for students, staff and visitors. A blue container positioned beside the court features a large digital information screen displaying campus and venue information. Food and beverage outlets are located nearby, providing convenient access to refreshments before or after activities within the precinct.
The precinct consists of wide concrete pathways, landscaped gardens, lawn areas and open gathering spaces surrounding the basketball court. Modern university buildings with glass façades overlook the area, while established trees provide greenery throughout the surrounding landscape. The open design allows clear sightlines across the precinct and supports easy navigation between the court, nearby facilities and surrounding campus destinations.
The precinct is used as a social, recreational and community space, supporting informal gatherings, organised events and access to surrounding campus facilities. Activity levels may vary throughout the day, with increased pedestrian traffic during university semesters, sporting programs and special events. Visitors may hear conversations, nearby sporting activities, bicycle traffic and sounds from surrounding campus facilities. The open-air environment exposes visitors to changing weather conditions throughout the year.
2. Basketball Court
The basketball court is accessed via a concrete pathway that curves through a grassed area with established trees. The pathway provides step-free access to the court and surrounding spectator areas. The court is positioned within an open outdoor setting on the QUT Gardens Point campus, with views towards surrounding university buildings and landscaped grounds.
The court features a blue outdoor playing surface with basketball hoops positioned at either end. Tiered concrete seating surrounds three sides of the court, providing informal spectator seating and gathering spaces. Accessible seating areas are incorporated within the tiered structure through level access points. The fourth side of the court opens onto a grassed area, creating additional space for spectators and visitors. Tall lighting poles are positioned around the court to support use during evening hours, while established trees and nearby buildings contribute to the surrounding landscape.
The court is used for informal basketball games, training sessions, organised sporting activities and community events. Activity levels may vary throughout the day and may increase during university semesters, competitions and special events. Visitors may hear basketballs bouncing, whistles, conversations and spectator noise during games. The open-air environment also allows sounds from the surrounding campus and nearby city environment to be heard. Weather conditions, including sun, wind and rain, may influence the experience as the court is fully exposed to the elements.
