Arrival at Canberra Olympic Pool
The Canberra Olympic Pool, located in a 50s-era industrial concrete structure, has a prominent pale, blue exterior & distinctive dome-shaped roofs. Situated in the central business district of Canberra, it is surrounded by multi-story buildings overlooking parkland.
Parking is available on both sides of the entrance, bordered by gardens. There are no dedicated accessible car parking spaces within the public parking area. Accessing the facility is step-free from the carpark, leading to a concrete pathway. Further ahead, a short ramp with handrails leads to a double, automatic glass sliding door. There is additional ticketed parking on the streets surrounding the facility. A bicycle rack is positioned near the entrance.
Reception
Enter the Canberra Olympic Pool facility through automatic glass sliding doors. The corridor is adorned with wooden walls, displays posters, and framed photos. Follow the L-shaped corridor to the right to locate the reception area, featuring three large windows and a small retail space with goggles, swimwear, and swimming accessories.
To the left is a door leading to the gym, opposite the reception counters. Veering right, there is an accessible family change room equipped with a shower and a toilet. Continuing to the left is another automatic sliding door that leads to a dome tunnel leading to the aquatic facilities. The low-ceiling space is illuminated by fluorescent lights as well as natural lights.
Gymnasium
Access the gym from the entrance is via the L-shaped corridor and on the left, through a manual inward opening glass door. Once inside, to the right is the gym office with kettlebells neatly arranged outside. The gym has floor-to-ceiling mirrors on two walls, and grey carpet.
The gym has rows of cardio machines such as rowing machines and treadmills. Further ahead past lockers on the right, is a second room. An inward-opening glass door leads to the weights room where the floor transitions from carpet to black rubber mat flooring.
Neatly arranged free weights are on the left and floor-to-ceiling mirror is on the right. Various resistance machines, including leg press and lat pull-down machines, are also available.
50m Indoor Olympic Pool
To access the Aquatic Facilities, turn left from reception. Proceed through the automatic glass doors into a tunnel constructed with durable vinyl material, featuring adjustable side panel flaps for accommodating various weather conditions.
Immediately inside is an eight-lane, heated, 50-metre Olympic pool with tiered seating positioned on the right. Accessing the pool is either via stairs with handrails or the pool hoist on the right side of the pool.
Blue matting at each pool corner clearly defines boundaries, and safety reminders are strategically placed on the pool deck. The dome-shaped ceiling is adorned with fluorescent spotlights and fluorescent lights.
Outdoor Aquatic & Leisure
Access to the outdoor pool facility is through a manual glass door to the left of the reception. The shaded Kid's Pool is on the left. The Diving Pool is on the right and is accessible by stairs with handrails. The pool features 1m, 3m, 5m, and 10m diving platforms with usage restrictions. Tiered seating and a lifeguard watchtower are on the left.
The diving pool is separated from the Kid's Pool by a fence and low steel gate. Alternatively, both pools are also accessible from the indoor pool using a manual glass door on the right.
Nearby, is a large parkland with well-established trees and picnic tables providing a quiet spot for visitors to relax after a swim. This space includes an outdoor volleyball court.
