Arrival at Alex Park
Located on Mari St in Alexandra Headland, Queensland, Alex Park is set within a landscape of lush, native rainforest spanning 10 hectares. The low-rise facility, constructed predominantly of concrete and glass, has a modern aesthetic accentuated by corrugated pitched roofing and is surrounded by towering trees.
Parking is conveniently situated just metres from the facility's entrance including accessible car parking spaces, which are located adjacent to the entrance.
Entrance at Alex Park
Alex Park is accessible through manual, outward-opening glass doors. To the left of this entrance are vending machines offering cold drinks and snacks as well as access to the indoor chapel. Inside, white walls and a high-pitched roof with white ceilings create a bright, airy atmosphere.
The foyer greets visitors with a display wall of photos and memorabilia on the left and a seating area in the middle. To the right, stairs lead to a meeting room followed by the reception area. A lobby to the left leads to the accessible bathroom and the main dining room.
Dining Rooms
There are five dining rooms at Alex Park, each with its own theme, and are designed to expand into each other to make larger spaces if required. To reach the main dining area, turn left from the entrance.
The main dining room is a large and open space with carpeted floors, white walls, and a soaring, high-pitched ceiling illuminated by LED lighting. Overhead, there are ceiling fans.
Rows of plastic tables and chairs are arranged within this area. In this space, there are bright marine-inspired murals adorning the walls, as well as digital screens. On the left, wash basins and hand sanitiser dispensers are conveniently positioned, while microwave ovens and hot water urns are also available for use.
Auditorium Astroturf & Outdoor Chapel
Entering the Auditorium Astroturf at Alex Park, visitors encounter an expanse of synthetic green turf, providing a vibrant contrast to the surrounding architecture. Accessible directly from the entrance past the reception area, this space connects seamlessly to the dining areas.
The outdoor chapel is nestled amongst the trees and gardens and white wooden bench chairs are arranged beneath the canopy of the tall trees.
Auditoriums
Access to the auditoriums at Alex Park, is via step-free access through outward-opening glass doors. Inside is a spacious area with carpeted floors and a white high-pitched ceiling illuminated by fluorescent lights set amongst ceiling fans.
A small stage is located in the corner of the auditorium and can be accessed via a few steps. This space can double in size with removable panels in the middle of the room - double both the room and stage size. A glass wall offers a view of the outside, providing a refreshing connection to the natural surroundings.
Bungalow Meeting Room & Bungalows Astroturf
A concrete path extends from the main entrance, guiding visitors to a low-rise concrete and glass building. The Bungalows Meeting Room, painted in cream and taupe hues, is nestled among trees. Access to this area is via sliding doors and has step free access.
Inside is a spacious, air-conditioned, carpeted area with a pitched ceiling lined with ceiling fans and fluorescent lights. The glass doors provide a view out over the local gardens and grassed areas. To the left of the entrance is a walkway that leads to the bathrooms which include an accessible toilet.
There are steps from the Bungalows Meeting room to the Bungalows Astroturf area.
Bungalow Accommodation
Bungalow Accommodation is a standalone, low-rise building with a cream-painted corrugated roof and polished wooden planks adorning the entrance nestled among the trees. There are 18 rooms (cabin style accommodation) in the Bungalows (30 & 31 are examples of 2 of the 4 types in the area). This area has 88 beds.
Bungalow 31 is on the left, and Bungalow 30 is on the right, both accessible through glass doors. Bungalow 30 has an accessible bathroom, while Bungalow 31, a Leaders' room, features a double bed and three additional single beds.
There are two new rooms, called Grasstree Bungalows, with a capacity for 12 people. Each has an ensuite, airconditioning, and is configured with a double bed and 4 singles per room.
Acacia Accommodation
A standalone low-rise building, adorned with a cream-painted corrugated roof. To access this building, turn right from the main entrance, passing by the pool, gazebo area, and gardens then turn left. Acacia has 94 beds across 12 rooms. It is dormitory style with shared bathrooms for the area.
The Acacia meeting room is situated on the right, featuring a spacious carpet area with air conditioning and a pitched ceiling. Acacia has an outdoor grassed area with seating, and a Surfboard outdoor shower for washing off after the beach.
Banksia Accommodation
Access Banksia accommodation by turning right from the reception area, passing by the Pool and Gazebo area, and turning right. A spacious meeting room is located on the left and a laundry room on the right. Enter through a low-rise cream-painted building.
The facility features 70 beds, each offering air-conditioned comfort. There are 16 ensuite rooms primarily configured for 4 people each, distributed along the corridor. There are four accessible rooms including the Leader's rooms.
Pandanus Accommodation
The Pandanus accommodation has 30 beds across 6 rooms with individual bathrooms and air-conditioning. These rooms are configured with 5 beds including a Double and 4 singles. Room 48 is wheelchair-accessible including an accessible bathroom.
The Pandanus accommodation block is located between Acacia & Banksia and features lovely outdoor seating areas and a welcoming arbour.
Pool & Gazebo
Accessible by turning right from the main entrance and descending a ramp, the Pool and Gazebo greet visitors. There are two pools secured with a steel fence and gate: a 25m pool with handrails and a smaller round pool, both shaded by cloth.
A red brick pool deck surrounds the area, complemented by lush trees, creating a serene oasis for relaxation and enjoyment.
