Stories of Inclusion / Tewantin Noosa RSL

I love the very practical Cérge app - and the local businesses on board and I was able to use it last Wednesday

I have multiple chemical sensitivity and myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue. Also annually around this time of year, breathing difficulties occur for some weeks which has been disturbing sleep, adds to fatigue and creates dizziness

I arrived at Noosa Tewantin RSL. I came to a halt quickly right on the doorstep, as the greeter was rubbing his hands having just used sanitiser which I am sensitive to. I said “I will wait outside until your hands are dry as I am sensitive to sanitiser” and quickly departed

A few moments later, the man came out, said his hands were now dry and correctly guessed I was the Cerge user who had recently announced my arrival via the app. I went inside with him and was introduced to a lady who guided me to the restaurant and handed me over to another staff member who showed me to a table. All made me feel very welcome.

There was no fresh air, outdoor or open-window seating as requested - there was simply no option for that in this venue but I was provided a table next to a non-opening window and given a choice for other tables if I preferred

Music was playing - at a very comfortable volume

I had stated via the Cérge app that I can become weak and faint when standing still in queues. I saw there was just one other person waiting to order at the counter so I was comfortable with such a small queue and approached. So I gently paced backwards and forwards in the immediate area until I was served. Another staff member did enquire if I was alright as I paced and I assured him I was fine with minimal explanation for my actions.

I ordered the lamb roast and my request for no potato with my meal was readily accepted. The meal came quickly, was a very generous serving and the waiter checked that the replacement of the potato with sweet potato was satisfactory before departing. I had not realised that I was supposed to collect my cutlery from somewhere so the waiter retrieved that for me too, and with a smile.

The meal was absolutely delicious - I have not seen that much meat on a plate in any restaurant for quite some time. I had a beautiful meal, felt welcomed and refreshed to tackle the drive home plus had some lovely general conversation with the staff on the way out - stopping to take our photo with my friend Cerge, of course

I am now encouraged to visit again. I have to be mindful of the possibility of fragrances at busy times but my experience today with the staff and food could tempt me to return in the quieter periods. I thought it was great that the RSL website outlines the quieter and busier periods so people could plan in advance

Thank you Cérge for looking after me today and allowing a place for me to state what customer service I require. It made a BIG difference.

I recently used the Cérge app to notify The Tewantin/Noosa RSL that I was visiting with my friend Bronwyn. I am always looking for dementia friendly locations who take the time to connect and make Bronwyn feel welcome.

For Bronwyn and also myself as the Support Worker I can get a bit anxious if I feel staff or a business aren’t in tune with our needs as it can disrupt an entire day. Usually we don’t need much assistance in the scheme of things but a special hello, a quiet seat, some tender service goes the extra mile for Bronwyn ??

We found an undercover park which was a relief on a hot day. We took the lift to reception and was greeted by Cèrge which immediately made us feel at ease.

Reception were expecting us as I had notified them our expected time of arrival and outlined that the lounge would be the quietest area to sit and we can order at the cafe. On ordering we were advised our meals would be brought to our table which was wonderful. It’s always tough for me as the worker if I need to leave Bronwyn to get our meals it’s an added anxiety I don’t need. Hence why this is important to be able to communicate through Cérge so it’s not embarrassing or awkward for my friends.

The meals were delicious and the lounge was very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating.

Thank you Cérge for once again making our visit so easy and we would definitely recommend people downloading the Cérge app and supporting those disability friendly businesses who are connected to Cèrge.

This app is honestly life enhancing, all those little things and anxieties I deal with are taken out of the equation. The business knows the service we need and that’s so helpful to us ??

I had a beautiful lunch at Tewantin Noosa RSL today with my mother, where I met a new friend named Cérge!

I logged in to the Cerge App to notify the RSL 30 minutes prior to my visit. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a friendly staff member who said “hello, it’s Ben!”. The Cerge Man cut out was located in front of the Conceriege desk easy to see so i knew where to go. This function of the App was super useful as staff knew that I was attending lunch and had everything I requested via the App ready.

She then directed us to sign in at the RSL. She then showed us where to order our meals and we were then greeted by another staff member who showed us our table.

On the Cerge App I stated that I would like a table away from other patrons so I could easily navigate my wheelchair without interrupting other customers and staff. The RSL accommodated this request and the table was reserved and staff had already took away a chair for my wheelchair to fit under the table. It was great to have this all organised before my arrival, making it easier for me and other patrons!

Before arriving, the Cerge app showed me many photos of the accessibility of the venue. The images allowed me to know that the venue is well catered for people like me with mobility issues. It showed where to go and park, before even arriving! I often feel anxious going to places I’ve never been before, and worry about finding accessible parking and accessing the venue. All of these concerns were eliminated thanks to Cerge!

Overall, then Cerge App was very helpful and worked as required. I’ll definitely check out the Cerge app for future outings!
