Yarra Centre Visual Story
Arrival to the Yarra Centre
Accessed from the Warburton Highway in Yarra Junction , the Yarra Centre's industrial-style building integrates seamlessly with the natural surroundings, characterized by a mix of brick, steel, and glass. The facility is surrounded by sporting fields and natural bushland.
There are multiple parking options at the Yarra Centre, including three accessible car parking spaces conveniently located directly adjacent to the entrance. Access to the facility is via either a short step at the front of the entrance or a ramp to the right of the entrance.
Entrance to the Yarra Centre
Access to the Yarra Centre is facilitated through an automated glass sliding door, with the right side designated for entry and the left for exit. The reception counter is positioned to the right, while a selection of aquatic items is displayed directly ahead.
Around the right corner of the reception counter, the Whistle Stop Café is situated, selling a range of hot and cold food items as well as drinks and ice creams. Seating, consisting of movable tables and chairs is also available in this area.
To the left of the entrance is access to the aquatic facilities, whilst further to the right of the entrance, past the café is access to the Gym, Sports Stadium, and Crèche.
The Aquatic Centre
Yarra Centre's Aquatic Centre entrance offers a sizable automatic sliding door or two manual glass doors, embodying an industrial feel with a two-story corrugated iron roof, steel girders, and aluminum vents.
The aquatic facilities include a 25 metre heated pool with wheelchair ramp access, as well as a heated Program Pool and a heated Toddlers Pool (which features graduated ‘beach entry’).
Aquatic wheelchairs are available for use. Lifeguards, clad in bright yellow and red uniforms, monitor pool safety from the deck. A Changing Places Facility is available close to the pools, including an adult-sized changing bench, a ceiling hoist, and a toilet and shower with hand grabs.
Gymnasium & Cardio Room
Beyond the Reception and Café, double glass doors open to a corridor that leads to the Gymnasium, Cardio Room, and Sports Stadium. The Gymnasium is to the right upon entering the corridor and is accessed via a manual, outward-opening door. This room is equipped with a mix of cardiovascular and resistance weight training gear.
An instructor's office, featuring a low ceiling, fluorescent lighting, and a black rubber-tiled floor, is immediately visible upon entry. Further down a narrow corridor, past the crèche and an accessible bathroom is the Cardio Room. This room is a large and open space with floor-to-ceiling mirrors situated behind the instructor's stage.
Sports Stadium
Walking past the café and entering the corridor, the Sports Stadium is to the left and is accessed via a large, open doorway. The Yarra Sports Stadium is expansive, with very high ceilings encompassing two indoor multi-sport courts accommodating badminton, basketball, netball, or volleyball, complemented by stadium seating.
The ceilings are well-lit with ample skylights and supplementary fluorescent lighting. The polished timber floor creates a glare effect and an echo is noticeable. Court 1 is identified by blue bunting on the wall, while Court 2 features distinctive yellow bunting.
The stadium design focuses on functionality, providing an accommodating space for various indoor sports and activities.
Crèche
Located through the shared corridor with the Stadium and preceding the gymnasium, Yarra's Children Play Centre Crèche is accessible via a white door marked as Multipurpose Room 2, secured by a low wooden fence.
The floor is fitted with rubber mats for child safety, and the space features children's tables, chairs, and recreational toys for engagement. The design prioritizes safety and entertainment, creating a secure and enjoyable environment.
