1. Arrival and Parking
The arrival area at Bluey and Jean Piva Park features a modern amenities block constructed with concrete and timber elements. The ground is paved with concrete, providing a smooth, step-free path from the accessible car parks to the building. The area is bordered by trees and landscaped gardens, offering some natural shade. There are two accessible car parking spaces directly in front of the amenities block.
Pathways connect the car park to the beach and surrounding park areas. This space is typically used for beach access and park visits. Activity levels may increase during weekends and holidays. You may hear the sound of surf and seagulls, and the smell of salt air is noticeable. The area is open and may feel breezy, with sunlight filtering through the trees. The amenities block is visible from the car park, with clear signage indicating its location.
2. Accessible Amenities Block
The amenities block is constructed with masonry brick and features high ceilings. The ground surfaces are smooth concrete, providing step-free access throughout. The structure includes multiple showers and toilets, with dedicated accessible facilities.
There is a Changing Places facility which includes a height-adjustable adult change table, a ceiling hoist, a peninsular toilets, a privacy screen and a shower. Pathways are wide, allowing easy movement. The building is located next to the beach, with subtle lighting enhancing visibility.
3. Accessible Beach Wheelchairs
The area features three roller doors made of metal, set into a brick wall. Access to these doors is controlled by a swipe card system. Inside, there are dedicated spaces for storing beach wheelchairs and wheelie walkers. Each device has its own storage area. There are two beach wheelchairs (Mobi-Chair and Sandcruiser) available for hire.
The ground surface is concrete, providing a smooth, step-free path. The space is partially shaded by an overhead structure. This area is used for storing mobility aids, which can be accessed by authorised users. Activity levels may vary depending on the time of day and usage needs. You may hear the sound of the roller doors opening and closing. The area is likely to be quiet when not in use.
4. Beach Access and Matting
The beach access area features a concrete pathway leading to a permanent beach mat which sits between the dunes and does not extend to the water’s edge. This makes the beach easier to access and provides a viewing point on the beach, while protecting the mats from damage by high tides. This area is bordered by grass and low fencing.
A shower is located near the entrance, and a barbecue area is situated on the grass above, offering views of the beach. The area includes steps leading down to the beach. The pathway connects to surrounding areas, ensuring smooth transitions.
5. Barbeque and Picnic Areas
The area features a mix of concrete and gravel pathways, with timber and metal structures. There are shaded picnic areas with benches and tables. The space is bordered by trees and shrubs, providing natural boundaries. Pathways connect to a beach access point with metal railings.
The ground is mostly grass and gravel, with some concrete sections. This space is used for picnics and beach access. Activity levels may increase during weekends. You may hear the ocean and birds. The smell of the sea may be noticeable. The area feels open with a breeze from the ocean.
