Waikerie Community Sports Centre Visual Story
Arrival at Waikerie Community Sports Centre
Situated in Lawrie Terrace, the Waikerie Community Sports Centre is an extensive sports precinct over 8 hectares and includes playing fields used for hockey, cricket, soccer, athletics, softball, touch football and special functions. The fields are adjacent to 6 hard tennis courts, 2 netball/basketball courts, the grassed croquet courts, bowling club and swimming pool.
The Recreation Centre's exterior blends white and red corrugated iron with a brown brick façade. The car park has an accessible car parking space and there is a step-free concrete path from the car park to the entrance. Along the path there is shaded seating on the right and further along on the left is the female change room.
Entrance at Waikerie Community Sports Centre
The entrance has step-free access with a manual glass door opening outward. Inside, the reception desk and kiosk is located on the left where there is an array of confectioneries, including sweets, chips, ice cream, and slushies available. Directly ahead is the Wellness Centre, accessible through a blue, outward-opening door.
To the right is a seating area featuring bright pink plastic chairs and wooden tables near the glass wall, allowing visitors to observe sports activities outside while having a snack.
A wide corridor from the right of the entrance leads towards the Stadium and Gymnasium, as well as the change rooms and bathrooms that include an accessible shower and toilet.
Sports Stadium at Waikerie Community Sports Centre
To access the Sports Stadium, turn right from the entrance and then turn left down a corridor. On the left, stairs lead upward to the second gymnasium while further down the corridor and on the right is the entrance to the Sports Stadium. A short aluminium ramp covers an approximate 10cm stepped entry to the stadium.
The floor is highly-varnished timber, creating glare from the skylights and fluorescent lighting and has markings in red, green, blue, and white to indicate areas for games.
Tiered seating is positioned on two sides of the stadium. Banners for various brands are affixed to the wall, with the local Waikerie basketball team banners' red and black colour scheme dominating the space.
Gymnasium at Waikerie Community Sports Centre
The gym has two sections with the main gym down the corridor on the left, past the sports stadium and the second is accessible via stairs from the corridor. The entrance is a single inward-opening wooden door which leads into a room with exercise equipment including bench press, and weights directly ahead, with cardio machines further to the right.
There are wall-to-ceiling mirrors lining the left wall, whilst the walls to the right are painted blue and the floor is grey rubber tiles. The second gym upstairs has carpets and offers an outside view through floor-to-ceiling windows. The upstairs “Boot Camp” room is an open space for team training activities and can get loud with high intensity training sessions.
