Arrival at Tobruk Memorial Pool
The Tobruk Memorial Pool is an open air, aquatic facility with a striking arched dome covering a 50m pool and is an architecturally designed building with brown bricks and wavy blue roofing.
The facility is set within an expansive recreational reserve with multiple sporting facilities and can be accessed via Sheridan Street. There are a number of car parking spaces available within close proximity to the facility including six accessible car parking spaces.
Entry to Tobruk Memorial Pool
Access into the facility is via the red brick entrance under the ‘Tobruk Memorial Pool’ sign and leads into a small reception with turnstiles (including a wheelchair accessible turnstile) and has a blue, reflective ceiling.
To the left is a retail space that sells a range of swimming gear and also has a seating area. To the right is the café that sells a range of snacks, drinks and ice creams. Directly ahead are the aquatic facilities situated in the open air, underneath a permanent roof.
Aquatic Centre at Tobruk Memorial Pool
The main aquatic zone consists of a 50m Olympic swimming pool and a 25m lap pool. The main feature of this area is the significant steel engineered dome structure with blue shade sails creating a checkered pattern and open air, pool experience.
To the right is the seating stadium, open air gym and bouncing area. There are accessible bathrooms in this area as well as accessible ramps into both pools. Accessible bathrooms are in this area and include a shower and toilet with grab rails.
Flow Rider at Tobruk Memorial Pool
Tobruk Memorial Pool is home to Australia’s only FlowRider ‘Wave in a Box’ Double (WIAB), an above-ground, self-contained attraction that gives you the thrill of surfing, skateboarding, and bodyboarding all in one. An engineered structure with high-velocity water to recreate a standing wave.
Surrounding this area is a range of seating options including sun lounges and is well shaded. The structure is blue, filled with water with protective padding along the edges, and surrounded by glass walls.
Warm water therapy pool at Tobruk Memorial Pool
The warm water therapy pool is a semi-enclosed dome, warehouse style design covering the 25m pool. The pool has an accessible ramp as well as a hoist, an aquatic wheelchair, and seating is also available throughout this area.
The wave riding pool is located to the left and to the right is a fenced barrier to the edge of the aquatic facility. This space is subdued and a calmer environment compared to the open air 50m pool creating a very relaxed space.
Open air gym at Tobruk Memorial Pool
The open air gym is located to the right of the main pool and is built out of a permanent tent structure with weather resistant, screening walls. Inside the gym is a range of exercise equipment and weights as well as ceiling fans and tv screens. Access to this area is restricted to 'Coaching Zone Members Only' and is through a small, black gate. Surrounding the gym is a children's bouncing area and a flat concrete space used for various exercises. There is step free access throughout this area.
