Asian Food Festival - Curated Plate 2024
A signature event of The Curated Plate 2024, Spicers Tamarind is hosting a culinary adventure of the best Asian restaurants on the Sunshine Coast including The Tamarind, Rice Boi and Spirit House. Set amongst the natural amphitheatre and undulating grounds large crowds of people may be observed enjoying the stage music, tastes and smells in a festival style event.
A ticketed entry prior to the main reception area greets guests to collect tickets and festival wrist bands. A security zone is in place prior to moving through the restaurant and beyond to the festival. Detailed access and sensory information in the following sections.
Arrival & Reception
Spicers Tamarind Retreat, nestled in Obi Lane South, Maleny, is positioned on a sloping hillside with uneven terrain. From the main road, turn left, to access the main facilities, including the reception and the restaurant. The reception facility is a low-set building featuring timber facades, a corrugated roof, and an extended veranda.
Parking is adjacent to the reception building, which is accessible via both a ramp and stairs with handrails. The ground surface is mostly deep gravel and may be uneven in some areas. Native bushland and gardens surround the reception facility.
The Tamarind
The Tamarind Restaurant is a low-set structure with a corrugated roof and timber walls, accessed from reception by a concrete ramp or wooden steps with handrails. Upon entering, there is a well-lit dining area with tables and chairs, and the reception desk to the right. Beyond the initial dining space, the restaurant transitions to a semi indoor outdoor dining space and a second internal dining room.
Various chair types and stools are strategically placed. Large windows flood the spaces with natural light and provide views of the surroundings forest. Outdoor tables and chairs sit under the shade of trees, accessible via a wooden ramp from the balcony. A toilet with grab rails is available in the main dining area.
Natural Amphitheatre
The event space, known as the Natural Amphitheatre, is situated on a spacious sloping hill, reachable by a gravel path and a series of steps or by weaving through grassed spaces encircled by gardens with tall trees and plants.
Tables and chairs can be arranged under the shade of these trees, providing ideal spots for picnics, weddings and other events while enjoying the serene natural surroundings. The steep hillside provides a sweeping view over the surrounding forest with people enjoying picnics and the calm natural environment.
Conference Facility
The Conference Room is located on a sloping hillside, reached via stairs and gravel pathways. This low-set building has a pitched corrugated roof and timber facade. Inside, the space is well-appointed with a polished dark timber floor and large windows that allow for ample natural light.
The interior offers a cozy atmosphere with a wood fire, a professional kitchen, and standard amenities. Beyond this, a door opens to a veranda with seating, overlooking the natural amphitheatre and garden. From the veranda, stairs with handrails descend to the garden and expansive green fields. A toilet is conveniently located within the conference facility.
Regular Accommodation
The regular accommodation consists of a low-set, slightly elevated cabin, accessed by four steps leading to an inward-opening door. Inside, the interior is comfortable and tranquil, characterised by dark timber colours and refined furnishings.
Large windows allow natural light to flood the space. Directly ahead, the kitchen and living room provide a functional and welcoming area, while a corridor to the left leads to a bedroom, complete with a bathroom with shower. The floor transitions from hard, timber flooring through to carpet in the bedroom. Some cabins include hot tubs on private balconies at the front, offering views over the forest.
Accommodation with ramped entry
Villa 7 has replaced the regular stepped entry with a ramped entry. Villa 7 is accessed via the deep gravel driveway to the left and beyond the reception with vehicle access between buildings recommended for wheelchair use.
Inside, the space is well-lit by large windows and features polished timber floors. Directly ahead lies the living and dining area, while to the left, there is access to the bedroom, which has an ensuite bathroom with both bathtub and shower. The balcony is furnished with tables and chairs, ideal for outdoor relaxation.
Swimming Pool
To reach the swimming pool, follow the concrete path that slices through the green grass and passes through a metal gate. The pool area, nestled in a dense rainforest, has sun lounger chairs positioned under umbrellas providing an ideal spot for relaxation while enjoying the surrounding scenery of tall trees and green grass. The pool is unheated whilst the attached spa is heated.
