Arrival
Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium, located on Sports Drive in Runaway Bay Sports Precinct, is a 4-court multipurpose facility suitable for basketball, netball, volleyball and skating. The stadium is also used for expos and small events. The arrival area features a large open-air bitumen carpark is at the front, with ample spaces, including one accessible car parking space. Access from the carpark to the entrance is step-free via wide concrete paths.
The facility is built with corrugated iron and surrounded by large green fields. Clear pathways lead to the entrance. Nearby netball courts and cricket nets suggest sports activity is common. The environment is open, with natural and sporting sounds creating a vibrant setting.
Entrance and Café
The venue has a step-free entry with a low ceiling and bright fluorescent lighting. Access is through a manual outward-opening glass door. Inside, the grey vinyl flooring is smooth and easy to move across. On the right is a café with café-style seating, offering a variety of snacks and drinks. Located on both side of the entrance are the two meeting rooms set up with tables, chairs, projectors and a whiteboard, suitable for meetings and presentations.
Past the café is an accessible toilet with grab bars. The area is active, with people eating, talking and watching sports. The sounds of conversation and ongoing games fill the space. The layout allows for both social gatherings and casual viewing of events.
Sports Stadium
Runaway Bay Indoor Sports Stadium has four indoor basketball courts with polished wooden floors that produce a hollow sound when in use. The building has a corrugated roof and large steel beams, resulting in a noticeable echo. Overhead spotlights reflect off the shiny floor, which may cause glare.
A tiered seating area on one side can hold up to 250 spectators. The space is often used for basketball games, training sessions, and spectating. The environment is busy, with movement, bouncing balls and voices contributing to an energetic setting.
