Rockingham Library Visual Story
1. Arrival and Parking
The arrival and parking area at Rockingham Library is located within an open-air car park with bitumen surfaces, trees and landscaped garden beds with mulch and grass. The library is a two-storey masonry building with brick and terracotta tones, light cream finishes and large glass windows fitted with white metal sunshades. Bollards and street lighting are positioned along the pathways and parking areas. Two accessible car parking spaces are located adjacent to the main entry.
Wide, flat concrete pathways with brick edging connect the car park to the library entrance. These pathways provide step-free access and are supported by directional signage. The surrounding area includes trees and low garden beds. This space is used for vehicle parking and pedestrian access to the library.
2. Roger Lethbridge Foyer
The Roger Lethbridge Foyer at Rockingham Library is accessed through automatic glass sliding doors set within brick walls. The floor surface is covered with grey carpet tiles. The space includes exposed white support pillars and structural steel beams. The ceiling extends across two to three storeys, with a full-height glass wall allowing natural light into the area. Seating is arranged along the edges with couches and tables, and brochures and magazines are displayed near the entrance.
The foyer connects to both upper and lower library levels through open views and glass panels. This area is used for entry, waiting, library programs, events and access to library spaces. Activity levels may increase during opening hours and scheduled programs and events. The height of the space may create echoing sounds. You may hear air conditioning systems operating within the foyer.
3. Library - Level One

The floor is carpeted with a patterned dark grey design. Bookshelves are arranged in rows and include non-fiction, junior and adult fiction collections. Customer service desks and a book return area are positioned near the main entry. Seating areas and computer stations are located throughout the space.
From the entrance, a staircase with handrails is positioned to the left. Moving forward through the space, a water fountain is located on the right, followed by female toilets, a unisex accessible bathroom with grab rails and a baby change table, and male toilets. Glass walls and large windows allow natural light into the area. This space is used for reading, study, computer access and library services.
4. Children's Area
The children’s area is located beyond the reception desk within the ground floor of the library. The space includes large glass walls with a sloping structure and exposed white metal beams. The floor is carpeted with dark patterned tiles, with sections of coloured play mats positioned across the area. White shelving units are arranged throughout the space, with additional lower book bins for children’s collections. Seating includes small couches, sofas and chairs placed near shelving and window areas.
The ceiling height increases in this section, allowing natural light through the large windows. Display areas for artwork and creative materials are mounted on the walls. The layout is partially separated from the main library by shelving and structure. This area is used for children’s reading, browsing and supervised activities.

The outdoor space includes terracotta brick walls, planter boxes, seating and a sink with bench space. The floor surface transitions to rubber tiles with a speckled finish. Step-free access is provided between the indoor and outdoor areas. This space is used for meetings, group activities and community programs. Activity levels may increase during scheduled sessions. Seating includes gaming chairs, bean bags and stools arranged around a counter. Lockers are available within the room.
The space includes an audio-visual system (PS4 and Nintendo) with a wall-mounted screen. There is a Tovertafel, an interactive table that brings games to life through movement and sensory play. The accessible bathroom has a manually operated inward opening door and a toilet with handrails. A water fountain is positioned near the elevator. Entry to the library area is through a wide, open entrance.
The level two library has a large open layout with grey carpet tiles throughout. Lighting is provided by strip and spot fluorescent fixtures. Walls are mainly white with blue accents, and large windows provide views of the garden and basketball courts. Bookshelves, study desks and seating areas are arranged across the space. A central printing and copying machine is located within the area, with air conditioning vents overhead. A vending machine is also available. This space is used for reading, study and computer access.
8. Meeting Rooms - Level Two
