Riverlife Visual Story
Arrival - Lower River Terrace
Riverlife offers fully guided tours including kayaking along the Brisbane River and abseiling down the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. A variety of equipment is also available for hire, such as road bikes, rollerblades, kayaks, and electric scooters. Upon arrival at Riverlife via Lower River Terrace, the designated car park is approximately 550 meters from the main facility through Kangaroo Cliff Park.
To reach the facility, visitors can walk or use scooters and bikes on the pedestrian path. Following the concrete road to the right are the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Brisbane River to the left. Picnic tables and bench chairs under trees offer serene river views and spectacular views of city skyscrapers across the water.
Arrival - Hamilton Street
The pedestrian pathway and bike path connects Lower River Terrace to Hamilton Street passing through the entire length of the Riverlife area and Kangaroo Cliff Park. Significant construction works of Kangaroo Point Bridge is underway at the Hamilton Street arrival point and is due for completion late 2024.
Visitors can follow the concrete pathway past construction works with the pathway changing from concrete to timber with some sections elevated above the river below. Multiple shaded and seating structures are prominent on the walkway that is shared with fast moving bicycles and scooters. Final arrival to Riverlife is a distance of approximately 450 meters.
Reception & Gear Rooms
The main reception building stands underneath the Kangaroo Point cliffs and set on the distant side of the path from the Brisbane River. The facility is a two-story structure with glass windows and a white corrugated facade, accessible via a manual outward-opening door. A step-free ramp leads to the entrance, bordered by a low white fence.
Inside, the reception desk, adorned with wooden planks is on the left. Light snacks, ice cream, and cold drinks are available from a fridge behind the desk. Further inside and toward the left, bicycles for hire are displayed, with a huge teddy bear adding decoration. Two tiers of multi-colour lockers line the wall, while tables and chairs are arranged for seating to the right.
Kayaking
Directly in front of the reception building, a shaded structure with wooden deck flooring hosts kayaks for day time adventures, but can also be transformed into an event space. This space is used to provide Kayak safety instructions and demonstrations. Small wooden gates and heavy chain fencing creates a barrier to prevent falling into the Brisbane River.
The tide height varies by several meters changing the effort required to enter and exit Kayaks via a ladder. From the left of the main reception facility is a river pontoon to enable simpler entry and exit by 4 steps as the pontoon moves with the tide. Kayaking can be a physically strenuous especially if paddling against the river current.
Café
Riverlife Cafe sits to the left of the reception entrance. Its counter has a mini bus design, set atop a well-manicured artificial grass area with the facility banner displayed overhead. Movable tables and chairs are arranged under umbrella shades for seating. Additional seating is available under the shaded structure facing the river, allowing visitors to enjoy scenic views while indulging in snacks.
Event Spaces - Permanent
Multiple permanent event spaces are found surrounding the Riverlife reception facility with two prominent structures on the left (riverside marquee) and right (sunset marquee). The permanent event spaces are event style marquees with white vinyl roofing and stainless steel coloured structural posts and beams.
Wooden ramps lead up from the main pedestrian pathway providing step free entry into the event spaces. Festoon party lights are looped across the ceiling which also supports multiple fans. When occupied, visitors can enjoy a dining or party experience while soaking in the scenery overlooking the Brisbane CBD and river.
Event Spaces - Outdoor
Two outdoor event spaces are situated on the river side of the main pedestrian pathway and approximately 150 meters from the main reception facility toward the Lower River Terrace arrival point. The outdoor event spaces are nestled amongst well established trees and a lush tropical forest environment.
The flat lawn surface facilitates a natural event space ideally suited for parkland ceremonies. With the Kangaroo Point cliffs directly behind, established trees either side and the Brisbane River directly in front, creates a private setting whilst within the Brisbane CBD.
Abseiling & Rockclimbing
To access the Abseiling & Rock-climbing spot, turn left from the main reception building moving along the base of Kangaroo Point Cliffs for approximately 300 meters to reach the abseiling and rock climbing areas. This path is also designated for pedestrians, bicycles, and scooters. The road splits, with the right side reserved for pedestrian walking and the left for bicycles.
On the left is a series of concrete steps with handrails to access the top of the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. The Kangaroo Point Cliffs is on the right of the pathway which also contains a bathroom block with ambulant amenities.
