Arrival & Pedestrian Access
The QUT Sport Fitness & Aquatic Centre at Gardens Point features modern architecture with concrete and glass structures, accessed through a central stairwell with handrails or an elevator at P Block. The area is busy, especially near the central food court filled with students.
From P Block, there is a ramp with handrails and elevators, ensuring easy access to the reception. Enter through an outward-opening glass door and descend to Level 2 via the stairs with handrails or take the elevator. The atmosphere is lively, filled with energy, and complemented by the sound of a piano playing in the background.
Arrival - Bike End of Trip Access
A second access route to the QUT Sport Fitness & Aquatic Centre is through the bike facilities at P Block. The area has industrial corridors with concrete walls and exposed pipes. Enter through the inward-opening door and turn left.
Lockers line the corridor on the left, while on the right is an all-gender accessible bathroom with a toilet, shower with grab bars, shower bench, and hand basin, accessible via a push button. Continuing along, more lockers are on the left. At the corridor's end, turn right and go through an inward-opening glass door to reach the reception.
The design and architecture, with concrete walls and exposed pipes, create a raw, industrial feel.
Reception
The reception at the QUT Sport Fitness & Aquatic Centre acts as a central hub, featuring concrete and glass elements in its modern design. Overhead lights and large windows illuminate the space and offer pool views. The reception is accessible by a lift or stairs with handrails.
Upon exiting the lift, the reception desk with a white façade is straight ahead. A seating area with a blue couch is on the left, with a drinking fountain nearby. To the right is a vending machine offering cold drinks.
Turnstiles and the reception desk form a controlled entry point, where members can check in or buy tickets. The atmosphere is calm and organised, centered on fitness and wellness.
Gym
The gym at QUT Sport Fitness & Aquatic Centre features a modern design with glass walls and a mix of carpet and green turf flooring. The space is open, with clear signage and accessible pathways. From the reception, turn right and pass through the turnstiles to enter the gym.
Immediately on the left are elliptical trainers and other cardio machines. Further along are punching bags suspended from the ceiling and an area of green turf for various workouts. More machines, including benches and free weights, are positioned to the left.
To the far right, there is an accessible all-gender toilet with a shower and grab bars. The atmosphere is energetic and focused.
Indoor Pool
The indoor pool area at QUT Sport Fitness & Aquatic Centre is an Olympic-size swimming pool, perfect for lap swimming and aquatic workouts. To reach the pool from the reception, turn left after the gated entry and proceed through an outward-opening glass door. Tiered seating is positioned on the left.
The space features concrete ceilings and glass walls, creating a sleek environment. The pool includes a ramp with handrails for easy entry, and the poolside is lined with non-slip tiles. Clear safety signs are visible. Accessible amenities are located to the left of the reception desk, past the turnstiles, including an all-gender bathroom with a shower and grab bars.
Underground Parking
The car park is accessed via a boom gate leading to an underground area beneath a security building. As you drive through the car park, lighting transitions from dim to brighter, indicating changes in lighting sequences. The car park spans two levels, including a basement, and features five accessible car spaces around a central elevator shaft on each level.
Entry to the elevator area is through an automatic glass sliding door, with ticketing machines and rubbish bins nearby. The car park is extensive and enclosed by concrete walls and pillars. The floor is primarily concrete, transitioning to white tiles near the elevator bay. The ceiling is low, with visible pipes and fluorescent lighting. Parking spaces are marked with white lines, and directional signage is present. Payment machines and recycling bins are located near the entrance, providing additional navigation cues.
This area is used for parking and accessing the QUT campus via elevators. Sensory elements include the smell of concrete dust and exhaust fumes, and sounds like car echoes and footsteps. The environment is generally dimmed, with car headlights contributing to the visual atmosphere.
