Arrival at QCCC Mapleton
Upon arrival at QCCC Mapleton from Obi Obi Road, visitors are welcomed by a series of brightly coloured directional signage. QCCC Mapleton is situated on 35 acres with extensive natural forests, tall trees, wide open green grassed sports fields and activity areas. QCCC Mapleton is situated on naturally undulating and sloping terrain.
Following the entrance road, veer to the left toward the reception building. Car parking spaces are situated adjacent to reception. The reception building is a low-rise design, with a pitched roof, a brown brick façade with step-free access. A large variety of activity zones are observable upon arrival including tennis courts, beach volleyball, pool areas and flying fox setups.
Reception & Dining Hall
The reception and dining hall are situated toward the higher sections of the naturally undulating terrain. A series of concrete and bitumen pathways connect the accommodation zones to the reception and dining hall. Entry to the Reception and Dining Hall can be accessed from the North and Eastern sides of the building via step free entrances.
A second stepped entry from the south side is also available. A small waiting area with a tiled floor separates the Reception from the Dining Hall. The dining hall is a spacious area with brown carpets, movable chairs, and tables. A large buffet is to the left with guest fridges, microwaves, and tea and coffee facilities on the right.
Harrison Lodge
Harrison Lodge is situated on the highest section of naturally sloping terrain and is a low-rise brown brick building and blue roof. A dedicated bus drop off point is on the north-western side of the building and is also accessed by sloping & covered concrete pathways. Inside, this spacious lodge features a low ceiling with exposed metal beams, white brick walls, and vinyl floors in a brown timber decoration.
Accessible amenities are situated at each end of the facility, with a central common room. Long corridors extend throughout the entire facility with 14 rooms with bunk beds and two ensuite leaders’ rooms located from the corridors.
Merrin Lodge
Merrin Lodge is located in the middle of the accommodation areas and has a dedicated bus drop off point including chairs and luggage racks. A series of covered concrete walkways connect Merrin to the main reception, dining hall and Harrison Lodge. The building is low set with a brown brick building with blue roof. The hall features vinyl flooring in a brown timber pattern and pine timber ceilings.
Three main entry points via outward opening glass doors connected by long corridors the length of the facility. 16 rooms, including 2 ensuite rooms for leaders are located from the long corridor. Bathrooms and showers including accessible amenities, are centrally located with a common meeting room at the eastern end.
Lethem Complex
Lethem Complex is on the lower part of the sloping terrain and is divided into separate low set buildings with a beige colours and grey trim finishings. The buildings are connected by bitumen roadways and uncovered concrete pathways. A cabin room in the highest accommodation building offers a step free entrance and enhanced accessible amenities.
A second accessible bathroom and shower are located at the lowest level of the Lethem building, which also supports guests utilising the nearby pool. The cabin rooms contain multiple bunk beds with vinyl flooring . The lowest building on the sloping terrain is accessed by a concrete pathway passing a tall timber fence, contains the designated meeting room for the Lethem area.
Kirkwood Hall
Kirkwood Hall, located south-east of Merrin Lodge and east of Lethem Complex, is reached by following the main bitumen road within QCCC Mapleton. Kirkwood Hall has a high pitched roof with brown brick facade and a corrugated roof with blue and white features. Visitors enter through a manual outward-opening glass door.
Inside, the spacious area is highlighted by a pitched roof, an industrial ceiling with exposed metal beams, silver insulation, a large ceiling fan, and a floor with grey carpet tiles. A stage is positioned at the furthest end. The open, airy space has large windows and glass doors, all set amidst a backdrop of trees and neatly trimmed shrubs. The facility has many internal event style set up configurations.
Climbing Wall & Abseil Tower
The Abseiling Tower is located behind Kirkwood Hall and accessed by a bitumen pathway. The Tower is constructed from wooden planks, it features wooden stairs with handrails to climb to the 5m or 10m abseiling platforms .
The climbing wall is an internal multi storey room attached to Kirkwood Hall. The climbing wall is painted with black and multi-colour prints and steps with climbing gear such as ropes, head gears, and gloves available. The high ceiling showcases large metal beams with silver insulation and extensive natural skylights.
Archery
The archery area is located underneath Kirkwood hall and is accessed via a gravel pathway. The concrete and steel structural supports of Kirkwood Hall provide the shooting range layout for six targets.
The ceiling is a low height with fluorescent lighting. Various floor markers indicate where to shoot arrows and provide safety frameworks. The floor is unpaved, adding to the rustic feel, and bench chairs are arranged for seating and observation.
Aquatic Area
To reach the Aquatic Area, take the road right from the reception. The entrance to the Pool complex, marked by a black metal gate, is on the right. Directly ahead is a shaded structure with bright doors, beside which lies a sauna.
Adjacent to this is a pool and alongside, the Kids' pool equipped with steps, handrails, a blue slide, and a colourful ramp. Picnic tables and sun lounges surround the pool area and are located under the shade of the trees.
Canoeing
A large lake is situated on the right side of the main road when first arriving at QCCC Mapleton. Following the gravel road beyond the volleyball court on the left a small yellow cream coloured shed is found on the waters edge.
A shaded structure with bench chairs is to the right, equipped with a wooden ramp extending towards the lake. Red canoes are positioned in front of the lake, and a pool fence secures the area. The lake is surrounded by large well established trees and ducks may be seen on the lake.
TribalLink
TribalLink can be accessed by following the gravel road beyond the volleyball courts and lake. Here, a sign marked "TribalLink" is displayed on a wooden post. To the left stands a grey building made of corrugated sheets, while to the right is a portable toilet. Ahead lies a dome-shaped shaded structure constructed from red shipping containers, offering tiered seating and improvised bench chairs underneath.
The walls are adorned with large indigenous paintings featuring intricate tribal designs. The floor is unpaved, and the area is encircled by manicured grass and tall trees.
Giant Swing, Leap of Faith & Flying Fox
Located east from Merrin Lodge is the Giant Swing, Leap of Faith, and Flying Fox accessed via a natural bushwalk through the surrounding forest. The entrance to this is marked by a sign reading "Bushwalk Entrance" and has uneven gravel pathways and steps.
A natural stream adds to the natural setting before opening to a large expansive field with manicured grass. The very tall trees are connected by large metal cables to support the outdoor activities.
Bush Hut
The Bush Hut is accessible via a gravel path lined with native trees and plants beyond the Pool and Lethem Complex. Nestled under tall trees and surrounded by green grass, the hut features corrugated roofing, walls made of half concrete and half timber, and wooden beams.
The concrete floor is uneven, adding to its rustic charm. The area includes a space for a campfire and improvised U-shaped bench chairs, all enveloped by tall trees, native plants, and grass, creating a serene natural setting.
