Arrival at Port Pirie Aquatic and Leisure Centre
Nestled in the heart of the Port Pirie urban landscape, the Port Pirie Aquatic and Leisure Centre is surrounded by bowling clubs and sporting fields. The structure showcases a contemporary architectural design, characterized by a sloping yellow roofline, timber and steel walls with a distinct rust red colour, and timber ceiling in warm brown and yellow hues.
There are two accessible car parking spaces available in close proximity to the entrance. From the car park take the path leading to a set of stairs with handrails, or via the ramp on the right of the entrance. The facility's entrance features automatic, glass sliding doors.
Entrance & Café
Upon entry, to the left is the reception desk and further around to the left is a café that provides hot and cold drinks, pies, pastries, and various confectioneries. Tables and chairs allow visitors to enjoy meals while observing nearby activities.
Moving past the café is access to both the indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities. Directly ahead from reception are the squash courts and entrance to the gymnasium hall.
Towards the right, and down a corridor is a multi-purpose room for conferences or activities, adorned with full-length mirrors and polished timber floors. The roofline, with a sloping design in timber, is a feature of this space and the floor are a combination of carpet and polished concrete.
Indoor Aquatic Centre
To enter the indoor Aquatic facility, head left from the reception area through the right hand side set of automatic glass sliding doors. This area is an industrial-style warehouse featuring white exposed steel beams, silver ceiling lining and skylights. Dominating the ceiling is the large white air conditioning vents, with a blue design feature on one of the walls.
This space houses a 15m indoor heated pool and a splash zone featuring slides with vibrant colours of yellows, reds, greens, and oranges. The pool can be accessed via stairs with handrails and a hoist. Modern and accessible change rooms and shower facilities including an accessible bathroom with an adult change table and ceiling hoist are located in this area.
Outdoor Aquatic Centre
To access the outdoor Aquatic Centre, head left from the reception area, passing the café on the left. Navigating through the left hand side automatic glass doors to the outdoor pool where the floor surface changes from carpet to concrete. The 7-lane 50-metre swimming pool is accessible via a stairs with handrails and a pool hoist.
Shaded structures are at both ends of the pool and are complemented by smaller shaded areas on the left. The area surrounding the pool consists of established trees and expansive grassy areas.
Additional tables and chairs are available under the shaded verandah of the aquatic centre. The sounds from the nearby indoor aquatic centre become distinctly audible, given its close proximity.
Squash Courts
The squash courts are positioned beyond the reception area down a corridor, past aluminium-tiered seating overlooking the adjacent gymnasium and gymnastics area. Along this corridor on the left, is access to the male and female change rooms as well as an accessible unisex change room with toilet and handrails.
Continuing along the corridor, three squash courts are on the left, each separated by white walls. This space has a high white ceiling with substantial fluorescent lighting and the timber floors are marked with red lines, delineating the boundaries for the game. Aluminium-tiered seating is also in place for spectators.
