How to book a beach wheelchair

To book the Sandcruiser Beach Wheelchair in advance, visitors can go to the Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club's website and scroll down to "Accessible Beaches". Click on the Booking link and complete the form. We recommend completing a booking form at least 24 hours before the planned visit.

The form requires details such as the carer's or user’s name, address, phone number, the date and time the wheelchair is needed, and life jacket sizes (adult or kids). The form does not need to be printed, but the user's phone confirmation can be shown on arrival.

Where to collect the beach wheelchair

At the beach, visitors can approach the lifeguard tower and notify the lifeguard or lifesaver on duty. The Sandcruiser Beach wheelchair will be brought to the tower by the staff. Personal wheelchairs can be left safely under the lifeguard tower for the duration of use.

It is the responsibility of the carer/user to ensure they have read and understood the safety and handling information before use.

How to use the beach wheelchair

The Sandcruiser Beach Wheelchair is designed for safe access to the beach and water, requiring a carer’s assistance. Before use, inspect the wheelchair to make sure the wheelchair is in good condition.  A beach mat is provided to allow easier navigation towards the beach area.

The user must be securely buckled in the chair and accompanied by a carer. The seat has three positions: one for transition and two reclining options, adjusted via a chain at the back. The carer should consult the lifeguards or volunteer lifesavers on duty to confirm water safety before entering.

How to return the beach wheelchair

After finishing with the Sandcruiser Beach Wheelchair, the user will be escorted back to the tower. Opposite the tower are beach showers and a hose. Wash the beach wheelchair thoroughly to remove sand and salt.

Return the wheelchair and life jackets to the original collection point in the same condition as when obtained. Report any missing or defective items, such as pins, buckles, or protective coverings, on the sign-in sheet.

Once cleaned and returned, inform the Lifesaver on duty that the wheelchair has been returned and is ready for the next user.
