Loftus Recreation Centre Visual Story
Arrival at Loftus Recreation Centre
Situated on Loftus Street in Leederville, the facility is a sprawling, low-set structure made of brown and cream bricks, accompanied by brick pavers. The recreation centre neighbours council offices, community spaces, and a library and is surrounded by gum and wattle trees.
There are three accessible car parking spaces located directly adjacent to the facility. From the car park, there is step-free access to the brick pavement which leads directly to the front entrance. There are gum trees, bicycle racks and a freestanding parkour training structure in the forecourt of the entrance.
Entrance at Loftus Recreation Centre
The entrance to the facility is through an automatic, glass sliding door. Upon entry, reception is directly ahead and features a high counter top with a contrasting blue design. The entrance has a white ceiling with fluorescent lights, and air conditioning vents overhead.
The reception desk forms a central hub of with all facilities in various directions. To the left of the reception, a lobby leads to the Gymnasium as well as Applied Motion offering physiotherapy, podiatry and massage services. Further around to the left and behind reception is the café and to the right is a group exercise room with a long corridor that leads to the basket ball courts.
Café
The café is accessible from either side, behind reception. Moving left from reception, a black leather couch and movable plastic chairs create a comfortable seating area. There's a distinct shift in the floor surface from grey carpet tiles to blue vinyl. The café offers a menu with toasted sandwiches, fresh wraps, snacks, and a variety of hot and cold beverages.
Adjacent to the café is accessible male and female bathrooms, whilst down the ramp behind reception is access to the Accessible Adult Changing Places Facility. This room includes an adult change table and hoist, an accessible toilet with handrails, and a shower.
Gymnasium
To reach the gymnasium, turn left from reception and access via outward opening, manually operated glass doors. Upon entry, the reception desk for Applied Motion is immediately ahead and features a seating area further to the right. The flooring transitions slightly from carpet to rubber tiles when moving from the entrance to the gym floor.
The gym is a spacious area surrounded by glass walls on the left, and features barricaded zones for coaching sessions. There are rows of cardio machines including rowers and treadmills, and a free weight section. Additionally, there is a 24/7 entrance at the front of the building, on the left hand side.
Sports Stadium (Courts 1 - 4)
To reach Courts 1-3, take the long corridor on the right of reception moving past the dance studio on the right. Access to the courts 1, 2 & 3 is via a descending ramp or three steps, both with handrails. Here, movable plastic chairs and tables offer additional seating, providing a view of courts 1-3 for spectators.
To reach Court 4, veer right from reception and move past the café and down a ramp equipped with a handrail. The stadium floors have polished timber finishes with markings for various ball games. The ceiling has an industrial look with exposed metal beams and reflective insulation. Fluorescent lights contribute to glare and reflections on the timber floor.
Group Fitness Room
The Group Fitness Room is situated directly adjacent to the right of the reception and is used for a range of fitness classes. There are cushioned chairs positioned outside one of the entrances to the room for those waiting for their class to begin.
Inside, the large and open space has polished timber floors and a low white ceiling with fluorescent lights. Mats, chairs, weights, and other fitness accessories are neatly arranged against the walls. Male and female bathrooms are located within this room.
Spin Class Room
Access the Spin Class Room is via two ways: either via a series of stairs or ramp from behind the café, which is the same ramp leading to Court 4. Positioned on the left once at the bottom of the ramp, the Spin Room is accessed through a manual outward-opening door. Inside, visitors encounter a calming atmosphere enhanced by orange lighting, casting a dim effect against the black walls with a space design.
An elevated platform in the centre is where the instructor leads the class and is surrounded by rows of spin bikes on timber floors. The room features a sizable audio-visual system and occasionally emitting loud music and motivational sounds, contributing to a dynamic fitness environment.
Outdoor Rebound Court (Court 5)
Access to the Outdoor Rebound Court is via the ramp beyond the café, passing beyond the Spin Class Room on the left and Court 4 on the right. Walking ahead, push through the heavy, outward-opening doors leading to the outside.
On the left, are movable tables and chairs for seating, whilst directly ahead is the court with a synthetic turf surface. When in use, the thuds of balls bouncing on hard concrete become loud and echo, creating a distinctive auditory experience in this outdoor setting.
