Gold Coast Hockey Centre Visual Story
Arrival
The Gold Coast Hockey Centre in Labrador features a spacious open-air sports ground with three hockey fields. The area is accessible via a bitumen road from Musgrave Avenue, with parking spots, including accessible car parking spaces, close to the main building. The architecture is modern, with a white building accented by golden trim and high black mesh fences.
The environment is open and airy, with nearby parkland enhancing the natural feel. On busy sports days, expect a lively atmosphere with people in hockey gear moving between cars and fields. The venue is designed for easy navigation, with clear pathways and ramps for accessibility.
The two bright blue synthetic pitches and the green grass pitch create a striking colour contrast on arrival.
Hockey Centre Ground Level
From the carpark, visitors enter through the metal gate and follow the paved pathways to the building. A small ramp or three steps provide access to the ground level. The main hockey centre is situated between two bright blue synthetic hockey fields. Bench seating is available on both sides of the facility for spectators to watch the games.
The architecture is industrial and modern, with concrete, metal, and glass features. A café is located on the ground floor, offering food and drinks during games.
In the centre of the facility is a covered breezeway with a central staircase and an elevator to access Level 1. Two accessible bathrooms are located in the breezeway area, fitted with grab bars, a shower, and a shower bench.
The atmosphere is lively during events, as people play, spectate, or socialise in the seating areas.
Hockey Centre Level 1
Access to Level 1 is via stairs with handrails or an elevator. Level 1 overlooks both blue hockey pitches and a balcony that can seat up to 200 spectators. Level 1 is shared by Gold Coast Hockey Centre and the Labrador Hockey Clubhouse.
On one side of the building is the Gold Coast Hockey Centre Function and Meeting Room. The room, accessed through an outward opening glass door, features a spacious interior with printed carpet and large glass windows offering a view of the blue hockey fields. Tables and chairs are arranged inside and outside, which includes a wheelchair viewing area.
A bar is also available within this area, offering snacks and drinks. An accessible bathroom with grab bars is available close by. Visitors are likely to watch sports events, socialise, and enjoy refreshments. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, with a sense of excitement and community.
Blue Synthetic Pitches
The Gold Coast Hockey Centre features two all-weather hockey fields set against a striking blue synthetic surface. A tall black metal fence surrounds the grounds, while towering floodlights loom overhead. Access to the fields is through a shallow water trap to wash boots prior to entry.
The artificial turf is watered to reduce friction, minimise risk of turf burns and injuries to enhance safety.
The fields are bustling with players practising or competing, and spectators watch from the stands. The atmosphere is energetic and lively, with clear sightlines across open space.
Grass Turf Pitch
The grass turn pitch at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre is located beyond the blue artificial pitch. A small shed like structure offers shade for team players as well as a coaching box. The field has well-maintained grass and tall floodlights to support evening activities.
One side faces the synthetic turf field while the other faces the blue field, making it suitable for both viewing and team use. Paved concrete pathways provide stepped access from the nearby carpark.
The setting is designed for hockey matches, training or casual gatherings, with people often seen playing, practising or spectating in an active environment.
Change Rooms
The ground floor of the main building at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre contains four changing rooms. Each changing room is designed with concrete block walls and polished floors. Benches and clothes hooks are provided for players, and the rooms are clearly labelled with inward-opening doors.
Facilities include multiple bathroom stalls with grab bars, showers, mirrors and hand basins. An all-gender ambulant bathroom with grab bars is also available.
The space is well-lit with overhead lighting, and wide corridors allow easy movement between areas. Each changing room has direct access to the fields, supporting players as they change, prepare for activities or take breaks in a practical and functional environment.
