Where to collect the beach wheelchair

The Mobi-Chair beach wheelchair is stored in a small shed located behind the clubhouse. A smooth, concrete path leads to the shed, making it convenient for wheelchairs and strollers. The shed, marked as a First Aid Room, has a simple design with outward-opening metal doors.

On arrival, guests report to the beach Patrol Captain, who arranges for a volunteer to guide them to the shed, ensuring access to the Mobi-Chair beach wheelchair as needed.

It is the responsibility of the carer/user to ensure they have read and understood the safety and handling information before use.

How to use the beach wheelchair

The Mobi-Chair beach wheelchair supports users up to 130kg and has a seatbelt that must be worn. The chair’s seat adjusts to three positions: one for transitioning and two reclining positions, controlled by a chain at the back. A lifejacket is supplied and is to be worn when the wheelchair is in water.

Carers should assess their ability to push the Mobi-Chair beach wheelchair from the shed to the firmer sand, and an extra helper is advised if the user is over 60kg. The chair should not go deeper than axle depth.

Carers must check with lifesavers about safe conditions and stay within the red and yellow flagged area when the wheelchair is in the water. For a complete guide on using the Mobi-Chair, please click here.

What to do before returning the beach wheelchair

To maintain the Mobi-Chair beach wheelchair, wash it thoroughly at the beach showers after use to remove sand and salt and as a courtesy to the next user. The Mobi-Chair beach wheelchair should then be returned to the original pick-up location.

The user should report any missing or defective items, like pins or buckles, to a Patrol member when returning the beach wheelchair. Users are liable for any loss or damage to the wheelchair or life jackets.

How to return the beach wheelchair

The Mobi-Chair beach wheelchair is designed for sand and soft soil, so please limit its use on paved or hard surfaces. After use, return the Mobi-Chair beach wheelchair and life jackets to the pick-up area in the same condition.

Once returned, it is important to inform the Surf Lifesaving volunteers that the wheelchair and life jackets have been returned. This ensures proper tracking and maintenance of the equipment for future use.
