Coolbellup Library Visual Story
1. Arrival and Parking
The arrival and parking area at Coolbellup Library is an open-air car park located adjacent to the building. The surface includes bitumen and sections of red brick pavers. Three accessible car parking spaces are marked with blue paint and yellow striped buffer zones. Established gum and wattle trees are positioned throughout the car park. A step-free pathway with tactile tiles connects the parking area to the library entrance. The building has a flat roof with a covered walkway supported by thin white poles.
This area is used for vehicle parking and pedestrian access to the library and community hub. Activity levels may increase during library hours and community events. You may hear vehicle movement and bird life, including cockatoos. The surface may produce sound underfoot from brick pavers. The area is exposed to sunlight with limited shade available from trees and the covered walkway.
2. Entrance Foyer
The entrance foyer at Coolbellup Library is a shared indoor space that connects the library, community support services, Child Health Clinic and meeting rooms. Entry is through automatic glass sliding doors, with the floor surface changing from external brick pavers to grey and black tiles inside. The space includes an orange feature wall with surrounding white painted walls. The ceiling is fitted with fluorescent panel lighting. Seating is arranged with tables and chairs, along with booth seating positioned within the foyer. Brochure racks and community newspapers are located near the entrance.
The foyer connects directly to the library by turning right through internal glass sliding doors. Access to the public meeting room is located to the left of the entrance along a short corridor. An accessible bathroom with grab rails and a baby change station is positioned outside this meeting room. The Coolbellup Community Hub operates within this area, including Justice of the Peace services on Mondays from 10am to midday. A water fountain is located near the entrance to the building. This area is used for entry, waiting and access to multiple services within the facility.
3. Main Library
The main library area at Coolbellup Library is accessed through automatic glass sliding doors set within a metal frame. The floor surface changes from tiled flooring in the foyer to patterned grey carpet tiles inside the library. The reception desk with a low counter is located to the left of the entry. Directly ahead is the print, copy and scan area. Low wooden bookshelves on wheels are arranged in rows with clear pathways between them.
Computer workstations with office chairs and fabric privacy panels are positioned within the space. The ceiling has fluorescent lighting, with a central section that opens to include higher windows for natural light. Floor-to-ceiling windows line one side of the library. Seating areas with couches and armchairs are located near these windows. This area is used for reading, study, computer access and library services. Activity levels may increase during busy periods, with higher noise levels at these times.
4. Children's Library
The children’s library is located within the main library space. From the main entrance, the area is positioned toward the far wall with large glass windows that provide natural light and views of the surrounding greenery and parking area. Low wooden bookshelves on wheels are arranged to create clear pathways. The floor is carpeted with a patterned design. Tables and seating are positioned throughout the space, including small stools and cushioned benches.
Overhead fluorescent lighting and air conditioning vents are installed in the ceiling. Materials for drawing and craft activities may be available on tables. This area is used for children’s reading, drawing and supervised activities. Activity levels may increase during weekends and school holidays. Children’s programs are scheduled in the mornings and afternoons on Mondays and Wednesdays, with higher noise levels during these times. You may hear conversation, movement and a consistent background sound from the air conditioning system.
