I visited Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre last week
with my Support worker and I was supported to use Cérge.
I have an intellectual disability and I don’t use phones and internet
much. I am articulate and know what I need to be supported with,
so it was good to be able to have the Cérge app be used with my
Support Worker.
I already visit places with a program I am involved in with
Distinctive Options called Train Transport( please let me know the
name if I’m wrong). Where we visit different places with our
support workers where we look at new places and document
travelling trials and tribulations.
Using Cérge I was able to see the Visual Story and Virtual Tour
beforehand which was so handy because it meant I had seen
everything before we arrived and knew what to expect. This
helped me be more excited than nervous this time. Usually when
we visit new venues we have no information beforehand and it’s
very daunting.
My Support Worker is very helpful and I’m so glad she showed me
Cérge because it means my family can also use the app or look at
places online (Cerge.app) with me at home before I go. It helps my
family feel comfortable too.
The TRAC centre was amazing with its facilities! Everything looked
the same as was online which was refreshing and calming. The
centre has all the things I would use for swimming. My mum is a
swimming teacher so I do love to swim!
Without Cérge I wouldn’t usually try new places very often so this
is great to feel confident to try new places and see if they may be
a better fit for me. I can also window shop venues from home to
pick my favourites to try!

Last week, one of our support workers and participants used the Cérge app for the first time! Entering in access needs and support information needed to support Carol was quick and easy. Upon arriving they were greeted and a water wheelchair was waiting at the accessible change rooms.
Carol is vision impaired and has a physical disability. Carol looks forward to her weekly outing at TRAC but at times her needs are not met with limited access to the bathroom and often Carol needs to wait for the shower commode chair.
Through using the Cérge app, Carol was treated as an individual that relies on support to access the community and on arrival everything was ready to go! Thank you Cérge and TRAC for helping our community to achieve its health goals!

Today I made a new friend
His name is Cérge
And together we visited Trac (Thomastown Recreation & Aquatic Centre)
For afternoon soak in the Pool
I was anxious before my arrival, as I had never been to the centre before
But with the help of Cérge I was able to alert staff before I arrived
And let them know I required female assistance and a small tour of the centre, so I knew where everything was and what to do
I was greeted warmly at the door by two female staff members
One who processed my payment and the other who took me to the pool area
She asked plenty of opened ended questions, to get a feel for what I was looking for today
And directed me to the different types of pools and facilities that are available
Such as the spa, sauna, steam room, lockers and change rooms
After that they advised me if I needed any further assistance the lifeguards patrolling are always happy to help or I could come find them at the front desk
They then left me to enjoy my swim in peace
Even though the assistance I received today was very brief
It was huge for me and exactly what I needed
When visiting a new place I’m usually very anxious about finding my way around and about asking for help
Thanks to Cérge I didn’t have that anxiety today
I knew as soon as I got there someone was going to show me around
And that put my anxiety at ease
