Toowoomba Sports Ground Visual Story
Arrival & Gated Entry
Toowoomba Sports Ground, known as Clive Berghofer Stadium, is on Arthur Street in Toowoomba, hosting local rugby and football clubs. The entrance features a secure gate with clear signage. The stadium, on the western side, is a concrete structure with a large tiered seating area.
A nearby parking area includes accessible car parking spaces. From the carpark, a step-free concrete pathway leads to a ramp with handrails. The pathways are paved with dark bitumen, marked with yellow lines.
Entry is through ticketed turnstiles or wheelchair-accessible gates, offering clear views of the sports field. On event days, access may vary. Stairs with handrails or lifts grant access to the tiered seating area.
Duncan Thompson Stand
The Duncan Thompson Stand is the main stand within the Toowoomba Sports Ground, which spans three levels. Step-free pathways provide direct access to tiered seating, with several spots designated for accessible wheelchair seating.
Accessible amenities are on Level 1, reached by ramps with handrails at either end of the stand. An elevator at the back of the stand connects the ground, Level 1, and Level 2. The design focuses on comfort and accessibility, allowing everyone to enjoy the event.
Players & Referee Change Room
The ground level of the Duncan Thompson Stand, accessible via an outward opening glass door, features a central corridor, lined with changing rooms for players and referees. There are four players change rooms on the left and two referees change rooms on the right. The change rooms may be connected to make two larger change rooms.
The walls are made of light-coloured bricks, and the floors are smooth. Each change room has multiple bathroom stalls and includes an accessible bathroom with showers and a toilet with grab bars. The central run-out corridor is designed for quick access to the field.
Level 1 Concourse
The central corridor within the Duncan Thompson stand at the Toowoomba Sports Ground is a spacious area with wide concrete corridors, accessible via an outward opening glass door. The architecture is functional, with a focus on accessibility, featuring ramps, stairs with handrails, and lifts.
The main canteen offers a variety of food and drink options. The accessible bathrooms are clearly marked and equipped with necessary amenities. The atmosphere is lively, especially during events, with people likely enjoying meals, socialising, and preparing to watch sports.
John Cracker McDonald Function Room
The John 'Cracker' McDonald Function Room on Level 2 provides a view of the sports field. Access is via external stairs with handrails or an elevator. From the lift, turn right; from the stairs, proceed straight through an outward-opening door on the right.
Inside, the carpeted space includes a small bar counter and an accessible bathroom with grab bars. Tables and chairs face the field, and a manual glass door leads to the grandstand. Large windows offer panoramic views, and the room is used for meetings, events, and social gatherings, creating a lively atmosphere.
East & South Stands
The East and South Stands at Toowoomba Sports Grounds feature open-air tiered seating with accessible sections. Lush greenery surrounds the stands. The seating is made from durable materials, designed for comfort and safety. Wide concrete pathways leading to the stand and the amenities make navigation easy. The stand includes a designated wheelchair section that is clearly marked.
At the back of the stand, there is a canteen that offers burgers, meals, snacks, and drinks. To the right, there is a female toilet and a unisex-accessible bathroom with grab bars, a hand basin, a mirror, and a baby change table. To the left are the male toilet and another accessible bathroom with similar facilities.
Sports Field
The sports field is a professional sports ground with lush, dark green grass, meticulously maintained by greenskeepers. The main stadium features a grandstand with red and grey seating, providing a vibrant atmosphere. A central run-out with a single step is present, but a step-free entry in the southeast corner ensures wheelchair accessibility.
The field slopes slightly from east to west, with football posts and painted lines marking the playing area. Visitors are likely to watch games, cheer for teams, and enjoy the lively, energetic atmosphere. The venue is designed for excitement and community engagement.
