Arrival at SWIRL

SWIRL is an Aquatic and Recreation Centre that adjoins a neighbouring indoor sports stadium. The facility is a low set warehouse style facility with features painted in white and light green and a range of small trees and shrubs surrounding it.

Turning from the main road (Nelson St) the SWIRL entrance is toward the right and down the sloping driveway. The car park is located on the right hand side of the facility with two accessible car parking spaces.

SWIRL Opening Hours in green font, email, website URL, and available amenities can be found on the digital signboard. The landscaping is impressive, with the grasses being maintained at a consistent height.

SWIRL Aquatic and Recreation Centre is a low-set warehouse-style facility with features painted in white and light green and a range of small trees and shrubs surrounding it. A grey fence secures the perimeter. Near the garden allotment are the inverted U-shape metal bike racks. Turning right from Nelson St and down the sloping driveway is the dedicated parking space with two accessible car parks.

Tall grasses are linearly arranged against the light green and black segmented walls of the facility. Heading straight from this pathway and to the left is a Welcome to SWIRL sign placed on the short white wall next to a staircase with metal handrails.

Entrance to SWIRL

Entrance to SWIRL is via a pathway leading to automatic, double glass doors to the reception area on the right. Directly ahead are the turnstiles, including an accessible turnstile, which leads to a small retail space selling a range of aquatic gear. SWIRL Eats offers a variety of hot food, cakes, fresh muffins, yoghurts, and drinks (including coffee) and has an external courtyard area for seating.

Aquatic Facilities around SWIRL

SWIRL has a six-lane, 25-metre indoor pool that starts at 0.9m depth through to 1.8m depth with a 1.2m deep zone suitable for aqua fit or similar water-based activities. There is also a three-lane (6m x 12.5m) program pool that is 0.9m in depth which has a gradual railed ramp entry. There is also a PoolPod accessible hoist. Moving throughout this area is relatively easy, however there are changes in floor surfaces from tiled to matted/carpeted.

The Aquatic facility around SWIRL has a unique ceiling and a clean-looking floor space. The facility has a grey matted floor, a glass wall, and large and wide orange frames with hanging blue wavy and orange flower-looking structures. A number of black benches and grey chairs with steel legs are scattered throughout the area. Separating the three-lane (6 m x 12.5m) program pool and the shallow pool found near the entrance door is a steel frame with a glass wall.

There is a PoolPod accessible hoist in the six-lane, 25-metre indoor pool that starts at 0.9m depth through to 1.8m depth with a 1.2m deep zone. The lanes are separated by red and blue floating ropes. It can be found next to the elevated section at the starting line of the pool and opposite the pool stairs with handrails. Intersecting horizontally to the pool is a string of hanging blue flags tied to opposite poles on the sides of the pool.

Gym and Group Exercise Room

Directly to the right upon entry to SWIRL is a dedicated gymnasium. This area has a small range of cardio equipment as well as free weights and leads into the other spaces that hold the exercise classes. There is a change in floor surfaces throughout this area, moving from timber flooring with some matting, across carpet into hard floor spaces.

Directly to the left upon entry to SWIRL is a dedicated multipurpose room for gym, spin classes, yoga and also conferences with polished timber flooring.

Accessible Equipment at SWIRL

SWIRL has male, female, and three family change rooms, as well as an accessible change room which includes showers, benches & toilets. There are aquatic wheelchairs available as well as a pool hoist.
