Arrival
The Gold Coast Recreation Precinct is an outdoor recreation destination with accommodation, sports and fitness facilities located on the Gold Coast Highway. The car park which includes accessible car parking spaces, is a large bitumen area bordered by greenery and tall pine trees. A paved pathway from the car park leads to the building, which has an extended front displaying the facility's name.
Picnic tables with umbrella shades are positioned along the pathway. The area is often busy with visitors arriving for various activities, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Custard Canteen
The Custard Canteen is an outdoor café at the entry of the facility featuring picnic tables and large umbrellas. The architecture is a mix of modern and natural elements, with wooden accents and a spacious layout. The canteen is accessible with wide pathways and seating arrangements.
Visitors are likely to enjoy a relaxed setting, sipping coffee and chatting. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, with a hint of excitement as people gather and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Reception & Information
Entry past the Café is through automatic glass sliding doors into a wide tiled corridor with high ceilings. The modern design combines glass, concrete, and wooden accents. A seating area is positioned on the left, while the amenities on the right include a toilet and shower equipped with grab bars and a baby changing station.
At the end of the corridor is a reception desk with white and blue-green trim. The desk has a lower section to accommodate seated assistance. Visitors may be checking in, asking for directions, or waiting, creating a functional and accessible environment.
Indoor Courts
The Gold Coast Recreation Precinct has multipurpose courts with a timber-sprung floor suitable for basketball, netball, and wheelchair rugby. A retractable grandstand seats up to 290 people.
Entering through an outward opening glass door on the right of the reception, Court 3 is to the left while Courts 1 and 2 are to the right. Further along to the left is Court 4. Court 5, positioned more discreetly, offers a quieter space. On the right, a lobby leads to amenities, including an accessible bathroom with multiple stalls, showers, and toilets with grab bars.
Gymnasium
The gymnasium is located down a wide corridor with a modern design. Its entrance has a clear sign and an outward-opening glass door. Inside, the floor has black rubber tiles, and large glass windows overlook the sports oval.
On the right, there is a rack for belongings, while cardiovascular machines are positioned on the left. Exercise machines, free weights, and cable machines are arranged throughout the space. The area is well-lit with dimmed lighting from glare-reduction windows, providing a view of the oval.
Recreation Precinct Transit Centre
The Recreation Precinct Transit Centre is located to the left of the main facility, providing a dedicated entrance for buses and guests staying in the accommodation area. The centre features an industrial steel structure offering shade and shelter for guests and luggage.
It is centrally positioned within the accommodation precinct and connected by a network of pathways, ensuring convenient access to surrounding facilities.
Recreation Precinct Accommodation
The Recreation Precinct Accommodation includes 18 wheelchair-accessible rooms designed for persons with disabilities. The vibrant, colour-coded buildings aid navigation, with wooden walkways and ramps ensuring step-free access across the site.
Open spaces with greenery surround the buildings, and a covered outdoor seating area is available for social activities and relaxation. The rooms have timber floors and bunk beds. The accommodation includes an accessible bathroom with a shower and grab bar.
Recreation Precinct Dining Hall
The Recreation Precinct Dining Hall is a spacious venue comprised of four separate dining areas that can accommodate up to 480 people. The structure combines timber and glass elements. A large timber deck provides views of the giant swing and high ropes.
Access to the hall is either by stairs with handrails or a ramp. Inside, the floor transitions smoothly from checkered tiles to timber. The hall is accessed through an inward-opening door. The food servery area is centrally located and rows of tables and chairs arranged.
Bright natural light floods the space and ample ceiling fan ensures proper ventilation. An accessible bathroom is available nearby.
Recreation Precinct Pool
The Recreation Precinct Pool has a 6-lane, 25-metre heated swimming pool with a ramp and handrails. The pool is floodlit and shaded by a large sail for sun protection. Bench chairs are positioned near the pool deck for seating.
From the car park, paved concrete pathways and ramps lead to double black metal gates at the pool entrance. To the right of the entrance is a wheelchair-accessible change room with a shower, toilet with grab bars, shower bench, and hand basin. Visitors can swim, relax by the pool, or enjoy views of Tallebudgera Creek.
Aerial Adventures & High Ropes
The Aerial Adventures and High Ropes area, located at the south of the transit Centre and accommodation, offers multiple high-activity challenges designed to build confidence and test skills.
The abseiling activity begins at lower levels of the cliff, progressing to a 10-metre drop. The aerial adventure features a 16-metre multi-level tower with over 45 ninja warrior-style obstacles. The high ropes course is set across four levels of the tower, with increasing difficulty as participants climb higher.
The ropes elements are positioned 10 metres above ground, providing opportunities for participants to move across suspended challenges and test their abilities.
Sports Oval
The sports oval is a spacious, open area with a full-size training field suitable for rugby and other sports. The field is accessible from the gym via stairs with handrails and from the south entrance. It is equipped with floodlights for evening activities.
Nearby, there are shaded seating areas and a modern building with glass and metal architecture, providing amenities like restrooms and equipment hire. The environment is calm and inviting, with clear pathways for easy navigation. People are likely to engage in sports training, casual games, or community events.
