Arrival at Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre
The Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre is a low-set brick building with a sloping corrugated roof. To the right of the venue is an extensive car park with a moderate amount of shading, with an additional car park located to the left slightly up the hill.
There is a total of 8 accessible car parking spaces, four on the right and four on the left. There is a very large roundabout in front of the building with a drop off zone and loading zone. A step-free ramp from the car park leading to the entrance allows easier wheelchair mobility. The Aquatic & Leisure Centre is surrounded by trees and parklands.
Entrance at Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre
The entrance to the Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre is via a slight incline from the parking areas, leading into a substantial breezeway within the low-set building. To the right of the entrance is the reception area, featuring a low-height counter accommodating people of short stature or those in wheelchairs.
Adjacent is a small retail area displaying goggles. Black pool fences form a barrier supporting the ticketed entry system. Inside, a café offers snacks, beverages, and ice cream, with movable tables and chairs for seating. The facility includes an accessible, all-gender bathroom equipped with a toilet with hand grabs, a shower with a bench and handrail, and separate male and female bathrooms.
Moving around Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre
The Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre is a very large facility with multiple areas that are all reasonably flat or have step-free access via concrete pathways. The central feature is the beach access pool with step-free entrance located at the leisure pool.
Towards the left is the large 50m indoor aquatic centre with a heated pool whilst over to the right is the café and the gymnasium. Further around to the right are the tennis courts whilst barbeques and picnic areas are also available.
The large blue shade sail over the beach access is a striking feature with the surrounding shaded recliner chairs giving this area a resort-like feel.
Indoor Pool Hall at Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre
Access to the indoor pool hall is via outward-opening glass doors which lead into an expansive space with a domed ceiling. Spectator seating is available to the left of the entrance, overlooking the pool.
The building has a 50-metre pool with 10 lanes, uniformly 2 metres deep and heated to 27 degrees Celsius. Adjacent to the 50-metre pool is a smaller 25-metre pool, 6.5 lanes wide and 1.2 metres deep, heated to a warmer 32 degrees Celsius. Natural light floods the space through large skylights, supplemented by fluorescent lighting.
Accessible toilets are situated 20 metres from the building. Upon request, a pool hoist is available, and aquatic chairs are also provided for use.
Gymnasium at Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre
To the right of the reception is an extensive gymnasium featuring a variety of fitness sections: cardiovascular equipment, heavy weights, resistance training, free weights, and artificial turf areas for drills and pulling sleds.
The floor is covered with a large expanse of black rubber matting and features varying textures of vinyl, tile, and carpet. The curved roof is adorned with suspended fluorescent lighting and numerous ceiling fans.
Within the gymnasium, there is a dedicated accessible bathroom equipped with a toilet featuring hand grabs, a shower with a bench chair and handrails, and a hand basin.
Accessible equipment at Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre
Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre is equipped with accessible equipment located in the First Aid Room, which includes an adult change table, hoist, and an aquatic wheelchair. To access this room, turn left from the main entrance and head towards the retail area. Enter through a door with a sign that reads "First Aid."
Moving back to the shaded corridor and continuing straight ahead are the accessible male and female bathrooms equipped with toilets with hand grabs, shower, shower bench, hand basin, and grab rails.
