Arrival to the Michael Clarke Recreation Centre

Located within the Carnes Hill recreation precinct, the Michael Clarke Recreation Centre is built on the side of a sloping hill with parking located at the top of the hill. Parking includes two accessible car parking spaces. From the car park, there is a step-free entry into the venue.

The facility features a modern and industrial-style with Michael Clarke Recreation Centre displayed in bright red branding across the front of the building. A number of steel bollards and sandstone blocks complement the industrial design.

On the left side of the door are the conditions of entry, while on the right are opening and closing days, the exact time the venue is open, and their contact information for any inquiries.

Entrance to Michael Clarke Recreation Centre

Upon entering the Michael Clarke Recreation Centre a long reception counter with reception staff greet your arrival. The desk includes a low counter top and directs your attention toward the left. Moving further to the left the reception area overlooks the basketball centre through glass windows. Access to the gym and multipurpose rooms is on the same level of reception and basketball courts via the stairwell or elevator.

Upon entering the Michael Clarke Recreation Centre, a long, white reception counter with reception staff wearing blue polo shirts along with their warm smiles will greet you upon your arrival. On the left side of the reception desk is the brand icon of Cérge with a QR code for customers with disability. Right next to the reception area is a Café. Different coffee flavors are offered, which guests can choose on the chalkboard menu in front of the desk.

Stadium at Michael Clarke Recreation Centre

The Stadium is the size of two basketball courts in a box-shaped warehouse. The sloping roof and large skylights allow for significant natural lighting and have tiered bench seating at one end. The upstairs offices and gymnasium overlook the stadium from above.

This area has an industrial, warehouse style with blue floors and bright red finishes. Various sports are played on the courts with multiple coloured lines on the floors for different sports game areas like basketball, netball, and badminton.

Under the “Ground” and “Lower Ground” labels on the right side of the elevator are the different amenities found on that specific floor.

Gymnasium & Exercise Studio at Michael Clarke Recreation Centre

To access the gym and multipurpose sports room on the upper level, turn turning right down the long corridor. Entrance to the gym is through a double door which requires a swipe card entry. The gym is a modest space with modern equipment, low ceilings with bright lighting and rubber flooring.

Upon entering the gym, resistance training equipment is directly in front and cardio equipment is positioned across the floor. A second room is designed for powerlifting and free weights. Amenities, including an accessible bathroom with shower equipped with handrails and a shower bench is also available nearby.

Entrance to the gym through a double door with grey metal handles requires a swipe card entry. The ceiling has a unique ladder-looking design.

Tennis Courts at Michael Clarke Recreation Centre

Access to the tennis courts is via an external pathway. Navigating away from reception to the right is a sequence of steps and ramps to move down the hill beside the facility. The ramps continue through a dense garden and meander down towards the tennis courts and through the playground.

There are tactile tiles and handrails available along this path. Additional parking is located at the bottom of the hill and adjoining the tennis courts for easier access.

Along the external pathway leading to the Tennis Courts is a dense garden, which you can meander through to the playground. There is also a staircase with metal handrails to support people with mobility disabilities.

Some noticeable parts of this external path are a lamp post and tree with a white L-shape cemented section.
Further down the stair, on the right, is a diverging concrete pathway in between the garden. The garden is full of plants from the succulent family mixed with bushes. There are also lamp posts in this area.

Tactile tiles with a slight elevation of brown concrete blocks on each side of the ramp. Several lamp posts, large trees with dense foliage, and benches can be seen throughout the area. A black tall fence surrounds the perimeter.

Lamp posts are also placed within the black perimeter fence to provide light during the night. Further to the back are tall trees that give shade to the ecstatic audience.

Cars are parked in the extra parking space available at the bottom of the hill and next to the tennis courts. There is also free step access from the parking space that protects the guests from direct sunlight. White road markings with different heights are painted to alert drivers of a vertical curve ahead.
